Not playing at 120Hz?

I have a new Samsung HDTV and a Sony Blu-Ray player. But, whenever I put in a BD/DVD, it always plays at 24Hz. I checked to make sure that everything was set properly and it was. I have read up on the subject but nothing seems to explain why it doesn't play at 120Hz. From what I've read it seems like Blu-Rays can play at 120Hz, so at this point I'm not assuming that they just can't do that. So, what an I doing wrong? Thanks.

(My TV DOES have the ability to play at 120Hz, I know this.)
