Default Sony S350 Help

I recently bought a sony s350 and am trying to connect it to my HDtv. The tv is 1080p and I have used the the audio/video cable provided. I bought an HDMI cord and plugged it in to both the tv and player but it doesn't work. Do I have to change a setting on either the tv or player to enable HDMI. Sorry if this is a simple question. I am new at this stuff.

thanks

You must go into the menu on the 350, under VIDEO SETTINGS.....go to "output video format"...set it to HDMI........

When I do that, the HDMI is not available, it has the video, component, and HDMI options but only the video and component are able to be selected. Does this mean that the cord is bad? I double checked the connections and everything is plugged in.

Yeah, it is from blu-ray to tv directly. I don't have a sound system.

Is video output set to Auto...or 1080p?, Also set output to DIRECT......if that doesn't do it try a new HDMI cable....1.3 or 1.3a preferably.....

(also make sure the setting for your T.V. to accept HDMI is set to "on".)

Make sure to unplug the audio/video cable you have plugged in that came with the 350.....

What do you mean it doesn't work? Can you see the player menu when you turn it on or is the screen blank/off?

If you can see the player menu then the cable is working and your issue is probably a setting change required. As pointed out in this thread, check the "Operating Instructions" manual starting on pg 42, #3 to set the video output over HDMI (start with the lowest setting first just to prove that it works).

If you can't see anything when you turn on the player, the first thing I would do (which you probably already did) is to disconnect and reconnect everything just in case something isn't seated right.

Next, I would try connecting it with the supplied audio/video cable just to prove that the player can send video at all. If it is still blank, take player back for exchange and ask them to connect at the store so you can be sure that it works. They may want to try connecting the one you take for exchange to see that it is defective which is also fine because then you will see if it works or not with a different TV.

Hope this helps.

I feel really dumb. It is working and always has was. To answer some questions, the player worked fine because I used the video cords and it worked. The reason I thought the HDMI didnt work because I plugged both into the player and then when I tried to select HDMI it didn't work.

What I just figured out was that when I switched from tv to the input for the player. I had been using the Video 1 because that was the cord I was connecting through. When I added the HDMI, I forgot to change the input to HDMI 1. I was still using the video 1.

If I didn't explain that well, here is the simple version: I was a tool.

Thanks so much everyone for helping out. Just by reading through some of these threads and my little snag I have learned a lot. I will defiantly use this forum again. Cheers.
