Default Starting a Blu-Ray Collection

Hey guys, just got my new Sony Blu-Ray player and I am going to start picking up some movies. Any suggestions on which ones I should buy?

A couple more questions... I have never actually seen a Blu-Ray movie yet but I have heard great things. Is there really a huge difference between HD TV and a Blu-Ray movie? As big a jump as from SDTV to HDTV? Also, this Blu-Ray player supposedly upconverts my old DVDs. Will it do the job for some of my old classics like the Matrix and 300 or should I rebuy them in Blu-Ray.

Thanks for all your info.

I think 300 and Matrix will definitely be worth the upgrade!
Depending on your budget though, I would probably start getting some new movies and wait for the titles you already have on DVD to be on some kind of sale...

Sunshine definitely looks (and sounds) amazing on BD. OTOH, there are plenty of better movies out on BD (that also look great).

To answer your question, your blu rays will look amazing. Going from dvd to blu-ray is like going from standard tv to high def tv. So I would definitely get the great action movies like The Matrix, 300, Transformers, Die Hard, etc on blu ray. Your dvd's will look good when they're upconverted, but nothing near blu ray.

I totally forgot about Transformers. Yeah, that should be in everyone's BD collection.

welcome to the forums.

I agree with most of the other members here, and
I own both Hellboy films on blu and IMO the PQ is Great on both and AQ is even better on the second film "Golden Army".

I heard that the new Hellboy is insane. Reading a lot of reviews, seeing the movies for myself, and hearing what members on here have to say, these are the movies that look sensational:

Hell Boy II
Transformers
Wall-E
Kung Fu Panda
I, Robot
Matrix Trilogy
Iron Man
Incredible Hulk
Cars
Kill Bill's
Ratatouille
Pirates Trilogy
Troy

so there's a start

If you've never seen a blu-ray, I'd highly suggest you understand how to calibrate your HDTV before you begin your blu-ray experience.
