Default Subwoofer concern

I just bought a new speaker system, see HT Gallery, and i have a concern about the subwoofer almost to the point of thinking about getting a new one, for startes the sub isnt completely level on the ground (and the surface it is standing on is perfectly flat) so it rocks whenever there is a bass heavy scene and causes a really irritating vibration, resulting in me having to mess about with the LEVEL and BASS BOOST options on the sub.

The other concern i have is it is a downward firing sub, and i was so used to my forward firing sub i had before, but this sub just sounds empty and hollow and does not give me the bass i want,

So im thinking, i could just place the sub in a corner somewhere and secure it againt a banister so stop the annoying vibrations or else get a new sub, what u guys suggest

Try putting a carpet square or doormat underneath it at least temporarily- may level it off as well as possibly provide better bass response. Also try moving around and see where the best response is. Try it in different places as well.

You can try to add some furniture pads underneath it.

Question

Is the sub on carpet or a wood floor ??? If it on carpet you might see if you can go to a local garden shop and find a stone stepping stone about the same size of the sub and place the sub on the stone. If on hardwood surfice the above posts would suffice.

You don' have much material to dampen the sound in that room which can lead to hollow and boomy bass. The other thing you may want to consider is that the sub itself is not top notch. What was your old model?

That looks like a sony sub, I could be wrong though. They don't usually perform all that well. You can get a new one and not break the bank - or go upwards of a grand if you want to

Just a personal preference of mine, but I don't really like downward fireing subs on hardwood floors. If you still have your old sub, I would just go back to that one

It's on a hardwood floor, the whole thing cost me 1500 Euro, at the moment im thinking, i could mess about with it and try it in different places till i get the sound right, but first and foremost i have to try sort out the levelness and make sure it doesnt start rocking away, i have considered getting another sub but my god i spent so much money on this system it will be at least another few months before i could afford to buy another sub. It is a sony sub

The older system i had was a HTIB with an active subwoofer(also sony) it was a forward firing, more solid looking box and gave great bass, i dont think i could use that sub as it does not have a LINE IN on it, it was powered by a fixed cable going to the receiver, i would use it if i thought i still could, but for now i guess ill mess around with the sub i have and hopefully find a happy medium

You can try this: http://www.amazon.com/Auralex-SubDud...8414753&sr=8-2 to help with the vibration.

If your reciever has a subwoofer out then you could use the old one, try that!

If not, I think the best thing to do would be to get an old carpet square and put it underneath the sub.

Well i placed the sub in another location (basically on the other side of the plasterboard u see in the HT gallery) there is an enclosure of about 8 feet long by 4 feet wide, it is where the water tank is! )and it is sooo much better, the whole room feels amplified and i just watched HELLBOY 2, absolutely amazing sound and no more vibrations!
