Help!! Problem with Brand New PS3.

Well my fiance just called me about her brand new 80gb ps3, about 4 days old.

She says that everytime she sticks in a DVD the system will shut itself after 10-20 mins.

Any Ideas?

she managed to get it to overheat playing dvd's? lol

i'm sure you told her to make sure it has ventilation right?

Well I set it up.. its all by itself in an open room..

It's in a dorm room, all the lights would turn off if the breaker blew..

i honestly can't think of anything but overheating. maybe the fans are broke or something?

yeah, cause a bad laser would just not read the disks...

Check the power save settings.

Thats the only other thing I could think of, but it shouldn't be on, I never turned it on..

well its newly purchased right? if you can't figure it out, take it back to the store for an exchange. no sense in messing with it

besides that, the lowest setting is an hour. and does that even work while a movie is playing?

And I'm there now, and it works fine.. though when I first booted it, it had no sound, and froze... i turned off the internet to see if that was the problem..

She's on wireless and it hasn't been working very well...

well..let a dvd play for 20 min and see what happens i guess?

let it play 9 mins (blu-ray and it worked fine...)
