Hi guys & gals.
Yesterday I asked about my purchasing a Sony s550 & how it would work with my existing Sony antique fx80. Great advice. Still getting the 550. After reading all the feedback, I'd really like to get the Onkyo 606 (read a lot of good stuff about this unit)& new speakers but that's going to put me way over the top. Is there a set up out there that will keep me under$750.00 total? (including the Sony) Is the 506 worth looking at for around $220? If so, how about speakers? Thanks. Look forward to lots more input. |

You can get the Onkyo 6100 HTiB for $550. Then you add your BD player. I'm still not sure why you are going with the 550 player. The only real thing you gain is analog audio outputs, which you WILL NOT NEED with the Onkyp 606 receiver. So, you can go with the Sony 350 or Panasonic BD35 player instead. This will put you at a total of right around $800. $50 over your $750 budget.

Second the suggestion with the 350 over the 550. If you want it all now, that HTiB would be a better choice than the 505- you lose HDMI audio and HD codec processing with that unit. |

You could got with the following, though: Sony STR-DG720 $210 Polk 5-speaker system $199 Polk PSW10 Subwoofer $99 - although I would suggest upgrading to the Ed A2-300 Panasonic DMP-BD35K $222 Optional: Polk Monitor 50 Pair $199 That would Total $730 without the two additional towers. If your going to go with the Onkyo 606 then you won't need the Sony 550.
I plan on getting this set-up for my bedroom and it maybe what you are looking for: Onkyo 606 for $289.99 Polk Speakers $199.99 Sony 350 $269.99 |

I can understand using an existing 505 or similar receiver in this manner, but why would you pay $200 for a "dead" receiver? For less than $100 more (anywhere from 25-75) you can get a 605 or 606 that can do that processing, extending the life of the unit. It's not a good investment. |
