Default Tori Amos: Live at Montreux 91/92

For any Tori Amos fans out there...it seems that France will be the only country getting a blu-ray release for these concerts...

http://www.amazon.fr/Live-At-Montreu..._bxgy_m_text_b

We will be getting them on CD/DVD but not blu-ray

mod note: be sure to look at posts 19, 20, 21 etc also for further possible info

NEW mod UPDATE: The above ^ link is now the DVD. The Blu-ray link is now the one mentioned in post 21 and has gone live from Paris it's Blu-ray pre-order.

I'll import if it is region free. I really wish we could get more good music on BD in North America.

Between the double disc cd outside the US and the lack of Blu-Ray, I'm pretty disappointed. I buy everything Tori, but I really wish there weren't the potential double dip.

It would be nice if we could get confirmation if the BLu RAY in France will be region free or not. Usually on amazon sites they state PAL etc but actually are not coded.

Otherwise I am fine with the standard DVD release / These shows were more than likely filmed on tape I would assume? So I can't say HD would do much for the medium of tape. I could be wrong?

I'm a huge Tori fan here... I am just hoping when she releases her AMERICAN DOLL POSSE DVD next year they also do a BLU release featuring LOSSLESS audio. :-)

Good keep us posted on the board and let us know your thoughts on the disc when you get it. I heard Tori and her engineers restored the sound for the release but I don't know if it will contain a HD auio or PCM track ?

but let us know if we get any news of it not being region coded.

Sure. I guess the specs will pop up soon. Won't be able to test the region coding though, as i am using a (region free) htpc and they are very unreliable concerning info about region coding.

If the price stays like this, i'll probably order it at the end of September from Amazon.fr. Lots of other interesting releases are being released during Sept. in France as well.

I think it's an amazon.fr screwup and there's no Blu-ray:

1. amazon lists only this "Blu-ray" and the CD, not the DVD.
2. The ASIN B00195HVSO refers to the DVD on amazon.co.uk and amazon.de
3. The cover picture has a DVD logo, not a BD logo.

At any rate, here are a couple excerpts from the DVD:
Winter, 1991
Silent All These Years, 1992

And while looking around I bumped into this little nugget...

You could be right cause I can't see them doing a blu-ray for France only since most music releases are region free ... I would just expect them to press them for all countries .. that company does release certain concerts etc on BLU but I doubt this one will.. I think it was shot on video anyhow.

Dude...if it were shot on video, they wouldn't release a blu-ray. There are several sites that had it for pre-order, I believe, so it would be more than just amazon's screw up.

And everyone knows that all tori after SLG is shit.
I'm pretty much done with her. She peaked with Choirgirl and the Plugged tour...even 9 1/2 weeks rocked. Everything else has been total crap. I actually left her last tour early. I couldn't take it anymore.

If something was shot on HD video instead of film, why would that prevent them from releasing it on Blu-ray?

Scarlet's Walk was one of her best albums ... that tour was even one of her best tours... yeah I liked her more Choirgirl days etc cause the lyrics were a bit more out there. BUt the songwriting on Scarlet's Walk was great. Also the live shows with her and the band are good... I can't say the ADP tour blew me away and I had great seats in MPLS but for whatever reason the sound was as looud os the prev tour Lotta Piano's that I had 3rd row orch pit. But Matt on drums is great.

I did buy every single one of the Legs and Boots from teh ADP tour however. She did some great live songs... I like her live more than on record.

But i understand how you're more of the early years Tori fan and I got into her later on.

Scarlet's was pretty pathetic...and ADP is just atrocious. I can't really say anything good about it. She's lazy now.

Was HD video available in 1991?

Sorry, but I've got to agree with Powell&Pressburger on this one; Scarlet's is one of her strongest albums. The writing came across as inspired, and there were very few weak tracks. Other than that one, I'm not overly impressed with much after Boys for Pele, which was my personal favorite. Though some consider it their favorite, FtCH was a even little bit of letdown for me.... but that's probably because it came after BfP. I put Scarlet's right up there with the first three.

Sadly have to agree with you... these last weeks I've been listening to LE, UTP, BFP, FTCH, TVAB, and those were extraordinary masterpieces. beekeeper was ok but unispired.. but SW and ADP... it seems like she lost it... or rather, we lost her.
I think Y KANT TORI READ was better! LOL

I hate to say it but ever since she had her daughter, she completely lost her edge. I feel like she used to "need" music. Now she just does it for money. It's finally become a job.

Personally, she's now healed and i'm very VERY happy that she's found that peace for herself. But as an artist, that part of her is gone. I have absolutely no hope that she'll ever be able to go back to that.

Thanks Deci.

So amazon UK has a DVD for £8.98 and a Blu-ray for £12.75. So it seems there'll really will be a BD edition.
