Default RE: Sony's PS3 A Sinking Ship: Sales Plummet

First, somehow i cant reply to the original thread, i always get the message im not logged in or dont have the permission to reply in this thread (this happens to almost all Threads in the PS3 section only, i dont know why...Shin_Ra???

Well now back to topic:

1. PS3 sold 18 mill units in 2 years

2. xbox360 sold 23mill units in 3 years

3. At 2 years the 360 was on 17.7 million units.
proof:
http://www.neoseeker.com/news/7495-g...x-7-3-million/

4. At 2 years the PS3 is on 18.5 milli.

so may i ask how is PS3 sinking?

this article is 100% paid, or fanboy article.

people always try to compare the PS3 with the 360 as if they both came out the same time...

right now the PS3 is in much better shape than the 360 was a year ago....and it will only get better while the 360 has already peaked...

yes, fanboys act like the PS3 and the 360 were both released on the same day, they also try to ignore the fact that the PS3 is selling faster than the PS3.

fanboys these days

The PS3 has done well in the time it was out but I expected better.

The xbox360 came out first and had a year head start after following up to a console that came in second place in the previous gen fight. The PS3 came out a year later as a follow up to a hugely popular previous gen console.

The demand for the PS3 was huge but the price prevented a huge explosion of purchases. Had the price followed the competition closer it would have blown away the xbox quickly.

Do you also pay homage to the day that Nintendo got shot in the back by Square Enix?

I have the feeling that the US medias are rooting a little bit too obviously for the home team sometimes, but there is one data that cannot be ignored this time (In Novembre): The sales went down -18% compared to last year.

That is really bad, and probably what sparked those comments.
This being said, 2009 looks a lot better for the PS3 than the 360 so far, and overall the PS3 is pretty much certain to meet their goal for FY 2008, while it is still uncertain (though possible with the Nov. sales, thanks to the huge price cuts) for the 360.

I was eyeballing the 120g PS3 w/uncharted at BuyMore which was $499.
I need another player and my friends are playing SOCOM right now, if they arent play GOW2. But i might just get a sony 350 because i have blus to watch and too many games to play and not enough time.

I cant remember if it was stated in the original thread, but is the 18% decrease just US numbers or worldwide?

I don't think the price effected the PS3 as much as the negative fanboy press. That is what these people count on. It's sad that people would fall back to those filth tactics, but some people/organizations are despicable.

It's like HD DVD vs. Blu-ray all over again.

Agreed. And what worries me greatly is that out of the 3 companies in the current market, one of them never hesitates to speak heavy smack about its competition which filters down to the fanboys who justify their rants while the other two carry on professionally. Even back in the PS2/Dreamcast/Gamecube days of smacktalk, I don't recall Sony, Sega or Nintendo resorting to the outright bully talk that's been prominent lately by a certain company.

As posted in the NPD thread:

The negative press is no different from the "Blu-Ray is failing" journalism. Totally made up/misinterpreted bull.

One company just ensured themselves a profit the month of November.

One company just threw away millions during the month of November, to make the non-$ numbers look better for the month of November.

The one with the clear profit, THAT's the one who made a mistake? That's the one who is sabotaging themselves?

No it is probably 98% the price. Most people going in to purchase consoles for themselves or for their kids don't research or read some random fanboys or mainstream news article. If that were true, Xbox 360 sales would have haulted at the announcement of a near 30% failure rate. The vast majority of people look at one thing:

Xbox 360: $199 or $299 w/ games and harddrive
Playstation 3: $399 or $499 w/ game

We all know how much added value is with that $399 playstation such as built in wireless, blu-ray, free online play, but to the general public it is just a console that costs twice as much. This is also probably why the PS2 is still selling like hotcakes. How many original Xbox's have sold in the past 3 years since the 360 has been out? Oh that's right, they killed it. Let's see what happens in 2-3 years when the Xbox 3 comes out and they do the same to the 360. I bet the PS3 will continue to sell, especially when it is below $200.

Personally I think the PS3 is selling fairly well and as long as we keep getting new features added and the games keep coming I don't care what the Wii or 360 do saleswise.

PS3 = 8.9 mil. per year avg.
360 = 8.2 mil. per year avg.

if PS3 is "sinking", the 360 is allready at the bottom.

an american news is telling to american citizens not to buy a japanese product, rather the american 360 product, oh funny that bs article appears right before christmas

That's really very equal in the big picture. There's only a 6.2% difference there. If sales continued at that rate... it would take the PS3 8 more years to surpass the 360 in sales. If the 360 is at the bottom.... they are both done for. I for one think they are both doing just fine for the problems each of them have faced.
