Default Quick Speaker Question - Very Subjective, though, be warned!

I've always wondered - why does...be ready for this one...every speaker manufacturer proclaim itself the best of the best? Some examples:

DefTech: 'The Leader in High-performance speakers.'
Klipsch: 'A leading global manufacturer of high-performance loudspeakers'
Revel: 'The World's Finest Loudspeakers'
Monitor Audio: 'British loudspeaker engineering at is finest'
JBL: 'Making the world play catch-up'
Polk: 'Listen to the Difference'
Paradigm: 'The Ultimate in Sound for Music and Home Theater'
Aperion Audio: 'The Best Home Theater Speakers'

Understandably, these are all low to mid-level brands (I KNOW that Monitor and Paradigm have fantastic offerings at the higher end, can you wait until I get to the disclaimer?)

Not that I'm calling out any manufacturers at all whatsoever, please make note of this. I know some of you are touchy about manufacturers, especially when it's about the brands you chose. This isn't about this. I've always been taught that speaker sound is subjective, and it does depend on each person's ear - but I can't say I've seen this happen in other consumer products! And for reinforcement, again, don't take any of this personally. I just want to know your thoughts on the competitiveness of the audio business. Especially in the entry to mid-level stages.

Just plain and simple marketing approaches. They're each trying to differentiate themselves from the other for a piece of a relatively small pie. I think that most informed consumers don't pay much heed to the corporate by-lines attached to their brand.

Totem Acoustic proclaims to "Unleash Your Soul"...I have their speakers and would gladly recommend them to others, but my soul was unleashed long before I considered them to be a part of the sound I wanted.

It's all corporate gibberish, but it makes them feel special!

How about this one

When buying speakers you demand the most
When spending lots of money you demand class
So put every penny a side and buy yourself BOSE
We promise you,TRUST US you won't take it in the a*s

I would of swore i read that on a BOSE poster in a audio store somewhere

What does that mean ?
Personally i thought it was kind of long for there new slogan

GOOD point JJ !! but remember the manufactures say they have the best or make the best to sell you something !and you are 100% correct when you say speaker sound is subjective ! Every ear is different !!! that's how come everyone has there favorite brand they think is best ! personally for me I heard allot of different speakers & my FAVORATE was my BOSTON'S . It will allways be competitive because everyone will allways want 1 or the other !!

Big Daddy Subwoofers: Greatest in the world, PERIOD.

Anyway, this is the nature of a capitalist economy. Marketing has more to do with the success of a product than quality. Many great products fail because they do not do a good job of marketing.

There's plenty of bluster to go around, but the hyperbole can go to ridiculous levels with consumer electronics. I think it's due to the fact that most people never actually see this type of gear in person, unlike cars, or televisions, or other consumer products.

Manufacturers can't go the "shy and retiring" route to reach a certain market niche - which is those folks with limited familiarity with audio equipment, and who are looking for reassurance that the high prices are worth paying.

Advertising bluster is common at all levels - entry level junk, mid-level audio gear, and at the high end too.

Would you buy their speakers if their slogan was "HAHAHA you just got screwed!" Its all about making the consumer feel they made the right choice in choosing their porduct. Nothing more nothing less.

LOL

You know that approach might just work! How many times have you read a movie review that said it sucked, but you ended up liking the movie?

The Energy Story:

Sure, these speakers boast truly accurate treble and midrange response, wide dispersion and incredible stereo imaging. But the real point is when you crank the volume, what you’ll hear is sound perfected. What you’ll feel is Pure Energy.

It's true that informed audio enthusiasts don't pay much attention to ad slogans like these. They are just supernumerary sentences that go in one eye and out the other. I really didn't notice the ad until after I bought mine. But I did find out what Pure Energy feels like after breaking in my Energy speakers!
