Default Polk RTIa7 or eD A6-6T6?

Any suggestions?

Room is 14x20. Mainly movies but some music, say a 70/30 split. Budget is hovering around 500-700 for L/R and the matching center channel. If anyone wants to recommend another manufacturer I can go and audition, let me know. Still gotta listen to Paradigms (would love to buy canuck), something from them in that price range?

Thanks guys!

Oh ho! If you are wanting to go Canadian, check out the Paradigm Monitor line and the PSB Alpha T1 or the Image T45 towers!

I've listened to the Polk RTiA line and recommend them over anything found commonly at that price point such as Klipsch. But as far as the eD ones, I've never listened to them personally - but they have glowing reviews based on an excellent price to performance ratio! $400/pr? Incredible! I know Layd_Dly has himself a pair and matching center....

In my younger "headache while driving" stage I've used eD stuff, which is the reason I'm even considering buying a set of speakers without hearing them The reviews do sound promising, and the price is just right.

Are the Paradigm, PSB and Image lines in my price range, if not, how far out?. I'll have to hunt down a place here to take a listen.

I'm definetely going for a more mellow sound. I wasn't a fan of Klipsch when I heard them. The Polks I liked, if thats the direction I decide to go I'll probably go the eBay route. Do you know off hand the center channel model # in the RTi line?

I'm sure someone who has eD will pop up an espouse their benefits.

I think the entry-level Monitor towers are in your price range. PSB makes both the Image and Alpha - I think the Alpha T1 is more in your price range, though, if you want to include the center. $500/pair, I think.

I'm not too fond of Klipsch either, but don't say it too loudly, we'll get jumped. Get your knife ready. The Center channel models are CSi A4 and CSi A6 if memory serves.
Responses in bold.

For the Rti A7 the proper center channel would be the CSi A6

I'm running the eD A6-6T6 front stage, and I love it. I always hate to try and describe the sound of speakers, as I sound like I'm talking about nothing. But they are very smooth. They aren't as sharp as Klipsch speakers, and they do have a better bottom end then my old Polk Monitor 50's. I'm extremely pleased with them.

Since you mentioned the "headache while driving" phase, I too use eD with my car audio, so you know the quality of product that comes from them as well. You won't be disappointed.

Can anyone think of something else in my price range? I liked the sound of the Polks, but want to audition a few more before I make a decision.

Total budget for L/R and C is about $1k CDN.

The M50v2 floorstanding towers with the VP150 center from Axiom will put you at $1,035.

You will get a better frequency response than the eD's and a nicer finish, but at almost double the price. As the Audioholics review notes the 40Hz on the Tower Pair of 6T6 is not +/-3db, but rather the limit of the speaker.

Still, the A6-6T6 Tower Pair for $400 plus the A6-6T6 MTM single for the centre ships for $595 total - THAT is pretty impossible to beat.

My vote is for eD.

You won't get the same sound from Paradigm at that price, even though they are great speakers.

Of course, the 30 day money back guarantee of the Axioms makes them well worth considering an audition with.

Ha, ha.
