Default Memorex 42" LCD 1080P - ever heard of it?

I bought this Memorex 42-inch Full-HD LCD tv yesterday and have been trying to find information on it. there is only the memorex site which lists it and the full spec sheet, and a manual in PDF.

I can't find anything on any forums about this (or any other size) Memorex.

Who makes the panels for this? do you think Memorex has a factory that assembles LCD TVs? (I don't think so, but maybe I'm wrong).

Only reason I bought it was that it was cheap ($600) and looked quite good hooked up to a Sony BD350 blu-ray player, and for an extra $52 I bought extended warranty for 3 yrs. (sure, I'd have preferred a bigger name than Memorex but for that price it could easily become just a disposable TV after the warranty expires.)

I have 30-day return privileges on it, too, so over Christmas holidays I'll give it a full appraisal.

But ............ any of you out there heard of this brand/LCD before?

Thanks! a brand-new forum member

welcome to blu

Memorex makes tapes and other audio/video products. Never heard of them making LCD's, there are lots of companies in the lcd market now, i understand the deal you got, please note that samsungs could be had for as low as $799 on BF, I would keep your eyes open the week before chistmas and see if there are more deals like the one I just listed. Sears has really good deals lately.

What matters most though is are you happy with it.

Where did you get it? Some manufacturers license out their name for products they don't build - I'm trying to remember which camera manufacturer did this with an in-house Circuit City line early in 2007.

But I seriously doubt that Memorex set up a real LCD manufacturing line.

They buy/resell the complete product from manufacturers in China and Taiwan. Just like almost everyone else...

You go there, tell them the size of screen, which chipset you like, how many of what inputs you want, and pick out the case. They assemble it, stick your name on it, package it in a box with your name on it, and drop ship it anywhere you say.

except ...... "they" didn't assemble it, if by "they" you mean the factories in China, Taiwan or wherever.

it shows that it was assembled in Mexico. So yeah, they sent a bunch of parts from China & Taiwan to a plant in Mexico where they're assembled, just like Sony does with a lot of their TVs. Most all of the Sony LCD units I've seen in the stores here in Mexico and in the U.S. are assembled in Mexico. Just like lots of the cars that are sold in the U.S.

It's crazy but you go to a GM or Ford or Nissan dealer here in Mexico and price out a car that's built right here in Mexico; then you go across to the U.S. and price the exact same car, that has been shipped there from Mexico, and it's two grand cheaper in the U.S.
The gov. here puts a hefty tax on all cars, built here or not.
