Default Samsung plasma vs PS3

Very new to this...so be kind.

I bought a used 80gb PS3 with backwards compatability (plays ps2 games).

When connected to my Samsung HD Plasma, The PS3 would not open up to its opening "wave" it took a few minutes to engage the game....but would not play some games, dvd`s or blue ray disc`s. When i went to the options screen on PS3.....and chose a item to open...the sreen would go back to the tv....and say format not supported.

NOW....when i took the PS3 elsewhere....used on plasma and LCD screens....it worked fine....everything worked fine.

Help....any opinions will help...thanks.

plug your PS3 in with both the HDMI and the AV cable that came w/ your PS3, and it will tell you that it notices an HDMI cable and if you would like to switch to it... if it doesn't do that, there is a handshake issue, 75% of the time it's the cable.

How old is the TV? It could be non-HDCP which has caused problems in the past...

I believe all HDMI TVs are HDCP compliant. This should only be a problem if he is using a DVI to HDMI cable.

I`ve used the PS3 ...with the hdmi cord....on other tvs....as recent as yesterday.....worked fine.

I have connected both hdmi and the av cords to the tv....i get "weak or no signal" with the av.....and the hdmi will actully start the game...after a bit...but skips the playstation intro, and playstation menu. When i try to use uites on the playstation menu, it takes me out of the game...to the tv`s screen...and not to the menu item. I am then forced to start the game over.

Could this be a firmware issue....with the PS3 ?

I have never heard of this. I don't think a firmware will d anything but don't quote me on this to me sounds like it COULD be a hardware issue. Basically something wrong with the unit itself, but again DON'T quote me on that either just a possiblity.

It sounds like something is wrong with your TV's inputs.

Not all. Some older ones aren't as the HDCP spec wasn't finalised.
