Default Samsung LCD LN55B650 or Samsung Plasma PN58B650

I currently have a Toshiba 65" DLP tv for my xbox 360, PS3 and blu-ray. I was looking at the LN55B650 LCD, the picture blows my DLP out of the water but then the plasma caught my eye. The prices are similar...LCD: $2359 and the plasma: $2459. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'm in the same position as you too...replacing my old rear projector samsung for the LN55B650 LCD which I find for 2249.99 shipped to me and then I saw the Plasma too.....for me I'm leading toward the LCD b/c I'm saving few more $$$ and and offer the 120 Mhz for better ESPN and DirectTV viewing...LCD has improve it techology a lot and the dose not produce a lot heat......

I'd definitely say go for the plasma you are going to get more in terms of motion and color for the money. When I bought my samsung plasma I pretty much told myself I would never go back to LCD because of what I got for the money. But nonetheless both are good TV's.

Actually, a Plasma is better for gaming. LCD's suffer from input lag, which can interfere with many timing-sensitive game genres like some FPS's, Fighting games and rythym games (like Rockband or DDR).

People say LCD's are better for gaming becuase of Plasma burn-in, which years ago was an issue, but the newer plasma sets have been built to be far more burn-in resistant. incidents of burn-in are quite rare these days and with a good quality plasma, should be fairly non-existant. Keep in mind that CRT's also can experience burn-in, but that didn't stop people from playing videogames on them.

To each his own, but to me LCD is better for gaming. I first bought a Samsung 42" Plasma (HPS4253) for gaming. It looks good, but it suffers from Image Retention alot. Even now, when I'm on my xbox dashboard, and it switches to a brighter color screen , you can see text and outlines from what was previously on the scren.. Even in movies, if a certain scene switches to all black (like a night scene), you still see the outline of the bright imaage in grey. I've never had a "burn-in", but Image Retention gets annoying after a while. But hey, maybe its just the model I bought. It is almost 3yrs old.

I sinced then purchased a Samsung 32" LCD (LN32A450) for my bedroom and is a much improvement over the plasma for gaming. I come to conclude that blu ray movies look brighter on it as well. Latency on LCD's are not a problem for me. And I play just about every FPS/3rdPS and Rythem games out there for the 360.

You don't have to preach to me my friend. I'm the proud owner of a LN40A530. I love my samsung and I game a lot. I don't really play any time-sensitive games except DDR and Devil May Cry 3, but I've had no lag problem with them as of yet. A LOT of people complain about lag though, so I thought I'd mention the problem here.

The newer plasmas are very burn-in resistant, but Image Rention is another matter entirely. There are a lot of people who say they game on their plasmas with no problem whatsoever....maybe yours is having issues? I myself purchased an LCD over plasma because of Burn-in/IR issues (LCD's can get Image Retention as well, but its still far less common than Plasma IR) and matte screen for watching with sunlight shinning directly on it with no problems.

Default Samsung LN55B650 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color

Samsung LN55B650 is a great HDTV, it has an ultra-fast 4ms (millisecond) response time and Auto Motion Plus technology that can let you enjoy crisp image and easy viewing of fast motion video sequences. It also has an elegant front bezel design which matches the television perfectly

The new Sammy plasmas are very crisp, with ultra true colors. I just picked up the latest 50B850 slim... 1.2" thick (23Kg). High contrast, excellent detail even with motion. I play COD4 on it... works great. I actually like it more than my previous PZ750U panasonic plasma. It automatically does 24fps when playing blu-rays and does it very well. new technology for anti-glare... it's worth seeing live in a store. The only thing I don't like about it... is being a very thin TV... it has mediocre speakers... so I use the optical out on the TV and take it to my receiver for audio

I was in the same boat you were a few months back. I had my heart set on the new Samsung 55" LED, but couldn't find it for less than $3200. Finally, I saw Amazon was having a sale on the 58" plasma for $2000 with free shipping, so I bought that, a new Sony Blu Ray player, and a bunch of movies!

BTW, this is my second Samsung plasma. My 50" is now in my son's playroom and only plays Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Kung Fu Panda, and Wall-E!
