Dont watch the latest movie first. You''l never want to watch anything X-Files related, let alone start watching the series, EVER AGAIN.

To understand Fight The Future, you NEED to watch the first 6 seasons. I Want To Believe is more like any other episode so there's not much to it, although there's some parts of the dialogue you might not get if you haven't seen the series.

Movie 1 was commercially MADE to sell the title to mainstream noobies who needed a quick representative taste-sample of the still-running TV series, while Movie 2 was a fairly depressing "Seven years after the finale" reunion that wandered off-topic.

...Not hard guessing which movie to see here, and you'd be right.

Speaking as one who never watched the show at all, there's not much series background that isn't deliberately explained in passages of dialogue--
There're a few shots of the Cigarette Man, and a fan-ref gag involving the Lone Gunmen, but as neither one particularly figures in the central plot, a quick Wikipedia search will clear things up.

that's not true at all. as soon as i saw i want believe i got right back into the x-files. so much so that i bought the soundtrack and the ultimate collection box set and started watching the series from the beginning. i dug out the soundtracks to the first two movies as well as buying the soundtrack to the show and the making of the x-files fight the future book. i also bought the book for i want to believe. and i haven't been into the x-files in almost 10 years (aside from the first movie). so no, watching i want to believe doesn't make one not want to the anything x-files again. if anything, it makes one more of a fan.

Well, good for you if you liked it. But you seem to be in the minority, and I personally thought it was a pile of steaming crap.

Not only was it a bad X-Files movie (to me), but it was just a bad movie in general, in and of itself, even when separating it from anything else X-Files related that came before it. I just dragged on and on, and it was boring and went pretty much nowhere most of the time.

I've never been the biggest X-Files fan. But I watched the show here and there and enjoyed it, and I liked the first movie a lot (my wife did, too). But, we went and saw this new one, and when it was over we both left the theater being VERY disapointed.

If someone is looking for a starting point to get into the X-files, my advice to to stay FAR away from that recent movie.

well from reading this thread it's hard to tell. there are many who liked and many who didn't. i thought it was excellent, but then again what do i know? many think it's the worst film of the year and perhaps the decade. i say rent it and decide for yourself.

I never watched the show (maybe like 2 episodes here and there),
but I had no problem catching on to both films.

Both movies is good. The 1st is more a "hollywood" blockbuster. While the 2nd independant feature. I like all X-files only 1 damn episode i really despise is the one with Burt Reynolds damn that episode is so bad it is almost impossible to be more bad

I enjoyed the second one greatly and it definitely made me miss being able to tune into a new X-Files every week.
Both are great pick ups on blu

Same here. It's pretty easy to figure out what's going on. Some stuff might come as a surprise to the people that didn't watch the show (like me) but you get what's going on pretty quick.

Add me to the group that likes the second film. I almost like it better than the first. I found the pacing better, the score better, and I thought it was somewhat creepier.

Watch the show from the beginning. The dvds are easily available and cheap and you can watch one of the greatest shows in the history of television (well, at least the first four or five seasons).

Watch the show the movies are not no where near as good as that. The first 5 season are the best, the last to seasons that Mulder was on the show were okay but it wasn't the same. As far as season 8 and 9 goes mainly 9 don't bother its like an completely different show.

I liked the new movie. It reminded me of the early TV shows. Every TV episode didn't have an alien theme.
