Default The PS2 used DVD ROM. What format do PS3 games use?

Are they blu ray game disks. Or does the PS3 only use blu ray movies?

The games are BDROM. IT plays both movies and games... and PS2 DVDROM discs, and DVD movies, and CDs, and SACDs, etc.

If you look on the game boxes you can see the Blu-ray logo. Except for Resistance: Fall of Man, I don't think any title has broken the 10GB yet though...

I thought Motorstorm was more than 10GB

Oblivion also uses more than 10GB but thats just redundant data to improve load times.

If the PS3 uses BD-rom for games, may i ask what the Xbox 360 uses? How can the Xbox360 get 720p/1080i out of their games if it's only a DVD rom based game? or are they HD-DVDs?

I thought the reason why PS3 can have high def games is because it uses BD-Rom for it's BD-Rom drive. If the Xbox 360 is only a DVD player... I'm confused!

The 360 uses DVD-9 for games (built in drive), and the HD DVD add on can only play movies. DVD-9 can hold about 9 gigs of information (single sided, dual layered DVD's). They can put out HD games because they are short and or heavily compressed. Take gears of war for example. It doesn't take much space for scripts and such, so the rest is left for the audio/video portion of the game. As you might already know, the game was rather short.

For the 360 only 6-6.5 gigs of actual game data can be put on a disc the rest is copy protection and other junk.

Interesting... thanks for the info! I knew DVD9 max-ed out at 9 gigs, but didn't know they only used 6/6.5 gigs for 360 games.
