Default Does hdmi 1.3 matter?

I just bought the epson home cinema 6100 and it says that it has x.v. color and a site I checked said that you need hdmi 1.3 to use it. I have a 35 foot cable running from where I am about to set up my projector to my onkyo 606, and I don't know if it's 1.3. I got it quite a while ago, but I am wondering, if it isn't 1.3, will I have to get a new cable, and how do I tell if it's 1.3?

I doubt that your system "requires" it, they probably just worded it that way so you would buy the most recent type of hdmi cable. I'm no expert, but from my understanding, 1.3 is just the newer version that has deeper color and a faster data transfer rate or something like that. I'm curious if it actually makes a difference in improving color, etc.

Color bit depth goes from 10 bits to 14 bits. At 14 bits it works out to something like 4400 billions possible colors. So, fixed pixel displays can actually look nearly as good as a CRT. The only other thing that will look as good for colors will be the laser-vue displays.

"HDMI devices are manufactured to adhere to various versions of the specification, where each version is given a number such as 1.0, 1.2, or 1.3a.[12] Each subsequent version of the specification uses the same kind of cable but increases the bandwidth and/or capabilities of what can be transmitted over the cable."
I got that from the wikipedia link you left, does that mean that the cable doesn't matter, but the connection? If so then that's great.

There is a reason they said to use 1.3..............to utilize ALL that it can do.

Its always been my understanding that you should get a Category 2 cable because Category 1 was only rated for 720p ans 1080i.

Correct. HDMI versions mean NOTHING for cables except marketing hype. HDMI versions pertain to the device. As long as your cable is category 2, you're set.

The X.V. Color and Deep color isnt even used for anything currently except HD Camcorders. So besides maybe future proofing, you should be all set. Unless I misunderstood what you were talking about...

As long as the cable has all the pins that the connector has, there is no difference. I don't know if all pins are used, or if there's any difference between different versions of HDMI (most likely not), and it is possible for a mismatch in the number of pins between cable and connector, which doesn't necessarily mean something is missing (cable or connector can have more pins than what's actually used), but if they match to begin with you are all set. A cable is just that, a cable, meaning copper (or whatever material) wire connecting point A to point B. Nothing more.

im sure those cables you have already are just fine for what your doing, the main difference for people wanting 1.3 is for bitstreaming Lossless audio, and as mentioned before, its not the cable anyways, but the connector...
