Question How much does the TV matter?

I purchased a 50 inch LG Plasma and Bose surround speakers, and I have been quite happy with the sound and picture. I have seen Blu-Ray demonstrated and it looks (and sounds) wonderful. My question is that my TV is a 720p. How big of a difference will it be?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

720p will be just fine. Set your player to 720p and you should end up with very pleasing results.

if u have a 720p tv and you set the blu-ray player's settings to 1080i, would the picture be better than having it be set to 720p or worse?

That depends on whether your television is better at doing the conversion from 1080i to 720p or your BD player is better at doing the conversion from 1080p to 720p.
