Default Upconvert vs Bluray

I wonder if anyone has tried to play a DVD with a player that can upconvert to 1080p and compare that to the Blu-ray version of the same movie. Does the Blu-ray version looks much better than the upconvert one? How about the artifact? Wouldn't upconverting makes the artifact even worse? How about color reproduction?

I was watching dvds on upconverting dvd players for the past two months until I bought a new PS3 recently. It was actually a dvd recorder with hdmi. The pq did look pretty good when upconverted but the audio is just standard. It does its job but why settle for second best.

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE ! IMO : Upconverting will make A difference , but it's not going to be as good as A BLU-RAY DISC ! Both PQ & AQ !

No matter how good an upscale chip you have in a player, the fact is this: dvd will always have only 480 lines of resolution and blu-ray has 1080. No amount of great upscaling can produce a 480 image to look as great as a 1080 image if the transfers were done without fail from the studios. It can look 'good' but it will never look 'great'.

Here's a thread with pictures to compare. I posted 3 pictures of a scene in Spider-Man 2. One on SD on a DVD play, one of a SD upconverted on a BD player, and 3rd one is a BD. You can easily see a difference.

Thanks for the screenshot. The upconvert one looked superficial. BD is much better.
