Default Connecting PS3 to Sony STRDG720

Hello,

Im a new owner of both a PS3 and a Sony STRDG720 and i'm having some issues with settings on both.

I have the PS3 thru HDMI to the STRDG720.

Problems im having (which may be related or not)

Cannot get audio out in 7.1 surround for BluRays (currently have Dark Knight in). Choosing AFB on the STRDG720 results in a NOT USED error (but I can see that the rear surrounds aren't being used on the recievers onscreen menu)

Trying to get the best possible audio from the PS3 to the STRDG720, what settings do I need to adjust? It seems I dont have control over any on the receiver side currently.

For example, id like the TRUE HD audio to go thru the STRDG720 on BluRays like Dark Knight.

Right now, i have an even bigger issue with the PS3 + STRDG720. If i insert a DVD, and start the PS3 by doing so... i get a picture in HD (but limited audio as mentioned above) BUT if i exit out the BluRay and go into the PS3 menu... the screen and receiver cycle on and off.. i can see the menu as it blinks.. but the receiver seems to try adjust itself auto for the PS3 menu and cant find the right signal.

Jumping into a game blindly... and the screen works fine and reciever locks in. (7.1 sound in fact)

I didnt change any settings today on the PS3.. but may have turned something on the receiver menus.

So.. to summerize... how can i get the optimal settings for the PS3 blu-ray with the STRDG720.. and how can I fix my menu issue! ( i didnt always have this 'blinking'. .just today)

Thanks in advance for any help!

ok...i had the same issue with my strdg720 and my ps3. my screen would turn red though as if there was a handshake issue between the ps3 and the receiver. i went through four of the receivers, each produced the same issue.

As for the sound, set the ps3 to LPCM in the audio options menu and you will get the loss less codecs. the ps3 has to decode the loss less codecs for you

unfortunately i do not believe the handhsake issue can be fixed, when i called sony tech support they were about as useful as a fart in a spacesuit!

PS3 should be set to Linear PCM.

The dark knight is only 5.1 TrueHD...no way you will get 7.1 with that sony.

...you can set the PS3 to bitstream, but you will not be hearing dolby trueHD, you will only be hearing normal dolby digital...but your sony may be able to matrix the 5.1 into 7.1.

Long story short...Lossless (HD) audio will only be what is on the disc. If its 5.1 you will only get 5.1

Good point.. hadnt thought about TrueHD being only 5.1. Makes sense.

As for the blinking handshake... i did have it working fine. I must have triggered something when I was trying to set up the audio 7.1 issues.

what it was... havent figured out.
