Default 5.1 hook up

Hi
I have a system that works fine with 5 speakers + a sub woofer.
A Marantz AV5500 Surround Receiver a Marantz DVD Player.

I recently purchased a Panasonic Blu-Ray DMP-BD35 Player.

I disconnect the older DVD player and wired up the Blu-Player wire for wire, but now I am only getting stereo out of the two front speakers

Can't figure out whats wrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

You have it connected by optical, correct?

Change player settings to output bitstream audio.

optical connected between player and amp in place.
I assume this is in addition to the regular red and white audio wires?

No.

The optical connection can bitstream 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS, or 2 channels of LPCM.

The only way to get hd audio from that player is through HDMI to a compatible receiver. If your receiver has analog inputs and you can return the BD35, you can get it's big brother the BD55, which has analog outputs for 8 channels enabling hd audio for older receivers.
