Default some blu-ray discs cause bsod, others work fine

hey, i am having playback issues with certain blu-ray discs on my computer. my computer specs are:

8 gb ddr2 pc6400 ram
intel core 2 duo 3.16 ghz e8500 cpu
850w psu
xfx geforce 8800 gtx video card v 6.14.11.7824
evga nforce 780i sli mobo
500 gb & 80 gb seagate internal hard drives
1 tb western digital external hdd
lg GH20LS10 optical drive
lg ggc-h20l bddvdrw optical drive v 1.03
vizio vx32l hdtv w/ dvi-hdmi connection (non hdcp, but i have software that resolves this issue)

i have over 30 hd-dvds and i have about 25 blu-ray discs. i use arcsoft totalmedia theatre (v 2.1.6.126) for high def playback on my computer. however, some blu-ray discs crash my computer. some movies will start playback before immediately crashing. some movies will crash in the menu. some movies play for up to 15 minutes before crashing. no movie crashes in the same place twice, and no movies crash at the same time as another movie. i have received one of two blue screen stop error codes from MS, either 0x0000008E or 0x000000EA. the six (6) movies that cause the bsod are:

die hard with a vengeance
indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull
the incredible hulk
iron man
3:10 to yuma
forgetting sarah marshall

i believe i have listed all the information i can provide, aside from all the high def media that successfully plays on my pc. i can name those movies if need be. i have examined the studios releasing the bds that cause system failure, and there are no anomalies. if a movie by a specific studio crashes, there will be another release from the same studio that plays flawlessly.

i don't know whether this is a hardware issue or a software issue; the most confusing point for me is that some play and some do not. i have searched far and wide for solutions. i have emailed arcsoft. i have called lg. i have searched forums. i have never seen any information regarding problems similar to that which i have faced. i would be very glad to discuss any possible solutions.

Does your PC randomly crash only when playing movies, or just randomly whenever? When I bought my new PC it would crash whenever it felt like, I live chatted with tech support and they said my BIOS was in need of updating.

Hope this helps.

my pc only crashes, ever, when i'm playing those six blu-ray discs. i am sure there are many other blu-ray discs out there that would have the same effect, but i do not own them, so i cannot test them. if i'm not playing those particular blu-ray movies i mentioned, my computer works flawlessly. =/

Default update

i have rented 3:10 to yuma, die hard with a vengeance, and iron man on blu-ray...they still crash my computer. at least now i know it isn't bad BDs. the only thing i have not yet troubleshot is my video card. perhaps that is the problem, although i don't think so...there's a reason i saved it for last. plus an nvidia geforce gtx 280, which is the next step above my vga, is more expensive than almost ALL sa blu-ray players. i guess i'm just going to have to give up on watching BDs on my computer. =/

When I rented Iron Man and The incredable Hulk awhile ago it did not crash my PC and they played fine using Corel Win DVD Plus 9.0. I also have Total Media Theater now and had problems playing bonus features of Kung Fu Panda which I own.
If you had a second BLU-RAY software player like Cyberlink WinDVD Ultra 8.0 then you could see if those titles play fine on your PC. It might just be a problem with your software BLU-RAY player your using. Also check for a firmware update to make sure your using the latest version of Total Media Theater.

I recomend making sure your GPU drivers are up to date as well as your version of direct x 10. If problems persist it's worth considering upgrading your GPU.

I was having a similar issue with "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" and "The Dark Knight" using either PowerDVD or TotalMedia Theatre. I fixed it by updating my gfx drivers to the latest beta version (181.00) instead of using the latest released version (178.24). My video card is the 7900 GTX on winxp. The BSOD error was STOP: 0x000000EA for an infinite loop in a driver.

Default May be a memory issue

These type of random issues are often bad memory or memory that is overclocked or running at incompatible settings

Run Memtest 86 version 3.4 test 6 and 7 overnight to see if your memory / CPU are stable.

Edit

I would recommend googleing the stop errors, The one ending in EA is definately a video driver problem as my machine BSOD'd on me the other day with the same error but a different cause (the newer 180 drivers and folding@home). Try updating you video drivers to the newest ones on nvidia's website and getting hold of the latest firmwire for your BD drive. If neither of these work check for BIOS updates for your video card and motherboard. Also try disabling any unneeded programs when using your machine for playback, and do a virus check. Also see if you sofware has any patches that need applying.

Hope this helps
