Default Are battery backups surge protectors better than standard surge protectors?

Hi everyone,

I live in an area for some reason has quite a bit of occasional brown outs (and I'm not living in the country area either). These are the type that within a few seconds they flicker on and off several times and sometimes, down for a few hours. I lost a tv (that was plugged to a surge protector), a microwave and a few other electronics and the same with my parents television set this year because of these brown outs.

So, I figured I have a lot of my computer equipment plugged into a APC Tower and started having it in several rooms in the house but I often wonder if having one of those battery backup towers or batter backup surge protectors would be good for the home theater electronics or would it cause more harm?

they wouldnt cause harm (unless theyre defective? ). i use one and it allowed me to turn off eveything properly when the power went out a couple months ago. i also have my ps3 hooked up to it so in case the hdd was being accessed it wont cut out. its states in the manuals not to turn it off while its being accessed since it can mess it up. the house were in now the power flickers like you said but i thought it was the wiring of the house. i the ups clicks on and off when it does and the system is fine

i had the same problems and i did that in my theater-

i have several back ups batteries all connected together.

specially for projectors it would cause a big deal of harm if they can't complete the cool down ventilation after the switch off...

i had few blackouts and had the time to switch off everything...

stronlgy reccomanded

I'm thinking about installing a whole house surge protector (installed in power panel) together with lightning suppressor. Maybe after I get my refund next year.

I'd actually run some Non-Mov Surge protectors or series surge supressors as their called, since they don' degrade like MOV surge protectors which you see in most stores or online.

The non mov's don't degrade and are fast and strong enough to take lighting strikes with no damage to it.

and add a backup battery to that surge protecter your golden.
