Default please help guys.

I just bought a Hdmi cable for my ps3. So i hooked it up to my ps3 and my t.v, then i turned my ps3 on and it says - an available hdmi device was detected. Do you want to output video and audio using hdmi? And i said yes then it just went blank, nothing on the screen it was just black. I waited 15 min and still nothing i turned it off and back on and did the same thing and still it was blank. Please if any one can help it will be nice i spent 60$ on that cable. And i just want to work, i don't know anything about ps3 so please any advice would help.

first it will ask if you want to use the hdmi, say yes. then switch your tv input selector to the hdmi input. then it will ask to use optimal settings which will use all resolutions up to and including 1080p. so that will depend on your tv

True, if your TV isn't 1080p and you have the PS3 set to 1080p you will get a black screen as well. The PS3 video resolution output needs to be set at the same as the TV resolution.

Hmmm, after you hit "yes" - it should have shown you the suggested resolutions like un3gvn mentioned.

Try it again and let us know what happens - maybe you hit "no" by accident the first time. It would be astronomical bad luck to have a bad HDMI cable.

had the same problem yesterday, took my ps3 to visit the inlaws in WI, hooked up the ps3 to my brother in laws 1080i tv and got a black screen. Now my TV is 1080p so the ps3 video output is set to 1080p. Ok turn your ps3 off, hold down on the on/off sensor for about 5-10 seconds until the light flashes, somehow this resets its output to 480i or 480p, not sure which one. Then the ps3 screen came up. Hope this is your problem as it was for us until we googled up "reset ps3 video output"

Thanks. The game works now But only when my tv input selector is set at the hdmi input. Is that means that it was right?

Ok then when it ask you yes or no just put no. It'll be in 480p so you'll have to set it up manually. Most likely you'll have to put it in 1080i. I have to do that with my parents t.v.

This isn't true. I have a 720p plasma that will display 1080i - but when I set the PS3 to 1080p, my tv will still work and it will actually tell me the input is set to 1080p when I turn in on or select HDMI 1 input.

on the main screen its the 2nd icon to the left. That has system update, screen setting, theme setting, etc..... It'll have Display setting and Audio Setting. Go to the Display setting and it'll ask which cable and if you want to set the video quality manually or auto. Go to manual

Okay, lets start from scratch... You need to hook up your ps3 to your tv with the included Yellow, White, Red cable. Choose the right input on the tv and from your ps3 go to display settings. Now hook up your Hdmi to the output on the ps3 and the input on your tv. You should be on your Composite(Yellow) input on your tv. Choose on the ps3: Display Settings, Video Output Settings, HDMI, automatic. The screen will change and it will tell you to press yes. Choose yes and the screen will go blank. You then need to change the input on your tv to the correct HDMI input, and the display will be showing from the ps3 and you will choose yes again. Finish by choosing your display type (4:3, or 16:9) if you have Hdmi, I'm sure you have a 16:9 tv. Anyway, I hope this helps. I tried to go through every possible painstaking step. What a pain in the ass it can be.
