Default Do you guys really think!?

Okay, I love BLU and know it will win and dont flame on me for this but most people on this forum think blu will win the war in the next months and after the resent transformer news of it selling 190,000 copies just proves that it will not just roll over and die like we all think. I know were winning in the numbers but for one format to previal as the domonant format, it has to be dominated by an huge margin and this isn't going to happen. We have spiderman but they also have the Bourne ultimatum which will also sell huge, the win will take time. Blu will prevail! but not for a while....

i agree. Also, keep in mind that with so many major retailers picking sides lately, studios may change their tune sooner than later. Economics 101... THe more people buy, the more you produce. This holiday season will be an interesting test though to see what makes peoples xmas list.

If Spiderman 3 sells double or triple what Transformers sold, that would quickly put things in perspective. The numbers for Transformers are good, but if a $300 million blockbuster still gets beat 2:1 or more by a BD blockbuster, that would be a clear signal to a studio like Paramount that going HD DVD exclusive was not the most financially sound move!

If Star Wars was released on blu ray, with proper advertising, it would easily end the war.

In regard to length of format war, IIRC there was a poll on how long memebers thought it would last. This was from a few months ago and since I suck at using the 'search' fx I could not find it. Might be interesting to compare that one to a current poll. IMO it looks like we're stuck w/it for at least another year

Even then I don't think it would....it would bring a lot of poeple to dual format but win the war, I don't think that would.

basically, the average DVD buyer doesn't want to rebuild their collection at this point... unless you are an audio nut, this technology is just too new...

simple really.

yawn, if Paramount didn't defect, we'd have probably won by this Xmas... it would have been sealed by next.
Once Paramount defected, it was pretty much stretched a year... so chances are it'll be decisively won by next Xmas and sealed a year after that.

I don't understand why people can see the pitfalls and know what's going to happen, then once said known pitfall occurs they lose sight of the big picture.

Relax, HD DVD was never going to roll over and die, but then everyone knew that and everyone knew Transformers was going to sell big, and most realistic people knew the format war wasn't going to be won this year (hell... it would have been optimistic even if Paramount didn't defect).

You have to aggree that since about start of September, HD DVD hadn't have a good exclusive, some people haven't bought any title for a while and TF is like a breath of Fresh air...

I think that the movies released next year old and new will dedide the fate of the war, not by this christmas but next christmas. What ever movie studio makes the better movie next year, will win.

Default PS3 may be the key

For the war to be won, companies like Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and other major HDTV manufacturers need to make the consumer feel as if Blu-ray is a MUST (which it is, but the consumer doesn't see it that way). There needs to be more advertising done, I don't see enough ads for either format.

The PS3 might be the key to winning this war. If Sony were to increase PS3 sales, and if studios improve games, and many start seeing it as a Blu-ray player also, than not only would the system war be won, but also the format war. The PS3 has great potential, it's like a PC with out Vista, pretty much.

blu-ray simply has more new movies as well as catalog movies to be released. Transformers is the only worthwhile movie for hddvd owners to buy.

the movie Bourne Ultimatium have you seen it ? Ok thank you bye bye.

It will sell massive too. Bda group really need to step it up with the advertisement, and go out there and explain the technology more (!)

edit: and standalone players need to come down down down asap ! Sony has always a little negative review for being arrogant and sort of laid back. I just dont get with all the massive industry/manufactor support and almost no pushing of the format ? And people say Hd sales are so low ?? Not weird at all.
