In regard to length of format war, IIRC there was a poll on how long memebers thought it would last. This was from a few months ago and since I suck at using the 'search' fx I could not find it. Might be interesting to compare that one to a current poll. IMO it looks like we're stuck w/it for at least another year

basically, the average DVD buyer doesn't want to rebuild their collection at this point... unless you are an audio nut, this technology is just too new...
simple really. |

I think that the movies released next year old and new will dedide the fate of the war, not by this christmas but next christmas. What ever movie studio makes the better movie next year, will win.

For the war to be won, companies like Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and other major HDTV manufacturers need to make the consumer feel as if Blu-ray is a MUST (which it is, but the consumer doesn't see it that way). There needs to be more advertising done, I don't see enough ads for either format.
The PS3 might be the key to winning this war. If Sony were to increase PS3 sales, and if studios improve games, and many start seeing it as a Blu-ray player also, than not only would the system war be won, but also the format war. The PS3 has great potential, it's like a PC with out Vista, pretty much. |

As my home snake Tron (shout out!) has pointed out before, Mr. Lucas (I call him G-Luc because we are tight) put Star Wars out on Laser Disc and that ended well. One title will not make or break a format. |

How do you know I am white. You better stop coming after me. I told you to watch your toes before they get stepped on.
Obivously given your lack of time on the forum. I was referencing a post by Tron 3. He was pointing out that Star Wars was on Laser Disk and that was supposed to keep that format alive, well it didn't, it died. I am just going to tell you to watch yourself because I will not take it lightly. |
