Talking Please help me choose betwen these two receivers.

I plan on getting a Pioneer vsx-1018 or a Denon avr-1909, I also thought about Onkyo 606 but heard too many problems about it. I will be using a receiver for 50% music and 50% movies.

What have you heard bad about the 606?

Between the other 2 I would get the Denon. Thats what I had before I got my Onkyo and loved it! Denon makes really nice equipment. I am not saying that that means there is anything wrong with the Pioneer.

But for features vs. price, the 606 would be a no brainer for me. That $200 could go a long way. Just my opinion.

I have never heard the Denon, but the Pioneer sounded awesome when I was between that and the Sony I bought.

1909.

The 1909 replaced a 605, much better sound and Audyssey setup than the Onkyo. BTW, you can get the 1909 from 6ave for under $500

Default Pioneer

I was in the exact same boat...did lots of reading and research and ended up with the Pioneer 1018. I bought it from J&R for $429 with free shipping (they price matched NewEgg). I'm very happy with it so far!

To be honest though, I think you'd be really happy with either of them.

If your Bluray player already decodes HD format, then I would add the Denon AVR-888 to your list to save some cash. I would put the rest of the money on a power conditioner like the APC H10 for your surge protection, noise filter, and power regulation.

Good luck

Denon and Pioneer are in a different league than the Onkyo... I would go with the Denon, but not too far behind the Pioneer... good luck!
