Default Why should we choose?

Personally I think it is all a marketing ploy to get us the consumer to buy a Blu-ray player. I could care less about high def stuff. Frankly neither could my 4 year old. What does it matter if dora the explorer comes in high def or not? Why can't the movies be placed on both like they did with VHS tapes and DVD's. This way the transition is made easier and the people who can't afford to buy a blu-ray player right now are not left out in the cold and not able to see a movie that they would like to see just because there is a Marketing war going on between Blu-ray and DVD's. Not everyone can afford to pay 500 bucks for something that is non-essential.

Thanks.

Great post for your first...not. If your not interested in HDM then why are you here. People here are passionate about HDM. This post is a slap in the face to all of us who actually can afford to pay $500 for something they enjoy. I am sure some of your hobbies/activities result in spending money many here would consider non-essential.

How welcoming.

Deeeads, there's no "war" between Blu-Ray and DVD. The studios are supporting either DVD or DVD and one or more HD formats. Not sure I understand the problem you're describing...

We did choose, now we are being shown that our choice doesn't matter, and MS will simply buy the market.

*ME*, personally... I chose Blu-ray for the larger capacity, greater bitrates, uncompressed audio and the BD burner just so happened to be factory installed in this VAIO laptop.

Yes! It will play any Blu-ray Disc AND any standard DVD.
As a bonus, this machine can also BURN to Blu-ray and/or any standard DVD blank.
DVDs aren't going anywhere anytime soon, so it doesn't really matter to me.
PLUS, I can always pop for a HD DVD player and plug it in... no worries!
*I* prefer Blu-ray... but I am open to whatever may happen.

YMMV.
