Sharp LC-52XS1U-S 52-inch LED LCD HDTV
Sharp's history as an LCD-technology innovator means you can expect big things from the company, whether it's a giant 108-inch flat-panel or, in this case, the firm's first LED-backlit model, the $12,000 Special Edition 52-inch LC-52XS1U. LED arrays are now the backlight of choice for high-end LCDs because they allow "local dimming" in parts of the image that call for deep black. Turning the backlight down or off in these areas keeps stray light from leaking through the LCD pixels, reducing contrast. But Sharp has pushed performance even further by using separate red, green, and blue LEDs instead of white light, a move intended to render truer, more saturated colors. The LC-52XS1U is the classiest, sexiest, smartest-looking flat-panel TV yet. The brushed-stainless-steel bezel surrounded by black trim puts it in another league from its black-plastic brethren. Below the screen are flat membrane control buttons, and below that is a Pioneer-branded speaker system housed in a matching brushed-stainless-steel pod. The TV's input jacks and most of its processing circuitry are in a standalone component called the AVC (shown below) that feeds the display by way of an HDMI cable or an optional wireless HDMI kit. This allows the panel to be super-thin -- just 21⁄4 inches deep at its max, and about an inch deep at the outer screen. The AVC has a gloss-black front panel set off by a stainless-steel door that swings down to reveal a convenience jack-pack with both an HDMI connection and an A/V input with component-,composite- and S-video jacks. Around back, you'll find four more HDMI inputs along with an RGB computer input, an RS232C port, and an Ethernet port (for accessing Sharp's Aquos Net Web services). For full article Link This must be part of the upcoming Sharp lineup...I saw a commercial for these....I'm assuming this is the top of the line model... I think Sony and Samsung are going to have some competition in 2009 with the lcd market Sexy |

So what you just did was copy and pasted parts of the article, then you copied the link on here. Couldn't you just have put the link on here only instead of writing the little info then pasted the link

To the OP: nice find. I already own a 46" Sharp LCD and was very interested in this new set (from the tv commercials). I could not find a price and now I know it is $12,000. Who does Sharp expect to buy this?
While the review you linked us to gives it high marks, it does not appear this LCD is light years ahead of the Sony or Samsung LED LCD sets or the Pioneer plasmas. While I am a fan of Sharp and hope this keeps them pushing the envelope, I would not even consider spending this kind of money on a 52" LED LCD. Maybe OLED, but that is not an option right now. |

![]() reason for this info is due to the multi color backlighting. at 12k, i agree its way too much loot, but still a very nice set! |

Looks like Sharp might start a trend here.
They pretty much offloaded all the "brains" of the system into a box and put the LCD in it's own case. Kinda like how laptops work. Very thin displays, thick bodies. I have to say, this is a really interesting setup. Perhaps it will become mainstream? The possibilities could be very good with this. Instead of replacing the entire system for an "upgraded" model. You can keep the pricey LCD, and replace the brains (which most people want changed when they upgrade anyways). Hmm.. interesting indeed! ![]() |

Isn't this the same as Sony's XBR8 LCD's with the tri-luminous backlighting? Sharp is not the first one to do so, since sony has this on the market at less then $12,000, the Sony 55" XBR8 is $6499.99 MSRP. FYI.
Thanks Legit for bringing this to everyones attention though. TRILUMINOS® RGB Dynamic LED Backlight TRILUMINOS® RGB LED backlight technology aligns individual clusters of red, green, and blue LEDs to produce a significantly higher purity of primary colors than single white LED backlights, resulting in more accurate color reproduction. This clustered arrangement also allows the XBR®8 to adjust the brightness of the backlight in units of small blocks, so it can display deep blacks in one portion of the screen and bright whites in another, producing images with enhanced depth, three-dimensionality and exceptionally accurate shadow detail. And, because it uses LEDs rather than the fluorescent tubes found in many HDTVs, the TRILUMINOS® RGB Dynamic LED backlight also promises exceptionally long life.
