Default 46" v. 52" ?

After some serious looking today it appears to me that the 46" LCDs from Samsung and Sony (A750 and XRB-6 respectively) are significantly sharper and have visibly less noise than their 52" equivalents.

In our room, we will be about 11 feet away from the TV and I am wondering if other people have also felt the same way and opted for the smaller TV or if I am just seeing artifacts of badly set-up TVs at BB.

Also, if anyone has a Samsung A750 can you tell me if the base swivels? Their website says yes but the picture says no way in hell.

I purchased the LN46A650 from Samsung in late November and we had it in a room where we were 14' from the TV. After a few weeks of enjoying the TV, we opted to upgrade to the 52" model (LN52A650). I checked out both TV's at my local Best Buy and after owning the 52" model for about a week now don't see any difference in image quality (but the larger screen is very nice). Is it possible that the settings of the TV's you were looking at were different?

The 750 doesn't have a swivel stand, Samsung's product information has been incorrect for quite sometime now. At 11', get a 52". Our setup for both TVs is about 11' for one and the other is 12.5'. The 46' should also not sharper or have additional noise, especially since you say it's significant. Most likely their cable feed is not up to par. The only way you can see a TV at it's potential is through a 1080p signal.

could be the calibration on each set?

46 vs 52 is not a big enough screen size to show a difference in pq

The difference was immediately evident but in thinking about it, the 52" sets were quite possible on their own cable runs as the display was bisected by their warehouse door. The biggest difference was on the Sony XBR which just tanked at 52".

I've looked at a variety of the Samsung models and just don't see any difference between 46" and 52". I can't speak to Sony, however.

I would point out, too, that not all stores show high-def images on their HD displays. Try asking your store to hook up each model you're interested in to a blu-ray player and not the store feed. That might help you decide and also see where the actual differences, if any, are.

Most stores dont have their tvs set up uniformly. So some tvs may look decievingly better then others.

Yep, have been told that many times by the sales people. However, I just bought the 52" 750 Sammy LCD and never saw that one look bad. Maybe they had the good cords going to it.

Anyways, as the other posters have said, there should not be a difference in the 46" and 52" models.

imo, on any screen size debate.. say 46 vs 52..

if you buy the 52.. you will not say " man, i should of gotten the smaller 46"

but if you get the 46.. there is the possibility of .. "man, i should of bought the 52"

when in doubt, go bigger

I bought a Samsung 46". I am exchanging it for a 50". I wish the wife would have allowed a 58" but since it is a shared area, her input trumped mine.

BTW, here is a comparison of a 46 and 52 inch screen size.

So are you satisfied with the LCD? Looks like you got the brand new one, not the used one, right? How does it compare to the Plazzy you had?
