Most interesting. I like the screenshots.
I must say that the color difference is NOT related to processing power.. and for that matter it is NOT a color difference. These games simply have different lighting. The Light Levels are clearly very different. The 360 tends to use brighter and more contrasty scenes here, while the PS3 has darker but softer scenes. Honestly the PS3 has more details in the shadows than the 360, which is just brighter. THis is clearly due to the difference in programming between the two, and are not related to processing abilities. Saying that I will also say that the detail is noticeably better on the PS3. Looking at the last scene, you can see the water effects MUCH sharper on her skin, and the aliasing on the objects is clearly more controlled on the PS3 version. 360: ![]() PS3: ![]() Overall I will say that the PS3 version is superior. You can see more details in the darker parts of the scenes, which just seem to dark at times. But, I think it really does look better on the PS3 based on these screen shots. |

Look at her chin, look at her zippers, her skin (yes her chest), look at the strap on her shoulder (clearly has more texture)...
Even the shadow on her forehead has more detail. (Not even there on the 360 version, hence the different lighting issue) The PS3 version is much sharper and detailed. |

The PS3's first year was rough with multiplatform games thanks to EA and UBI but after that it has been all over the place. That said, in motion needs to be checked for a fair comparison.
That said I'll wait for Uncharted 2 ![]() "However, the PS3 version does suffer from the usual 'washed out' lighting effect." LOL, you mean not having your display set up properly with your PS3. edit: looking at the rest of the pictures it isn't a graphical powerhouse by any means. Curious what the gameplay looks like. Looks better in that picture, but as I've said with every one of these comparisons (360 better then PS3 and vice versa), while we're playing the game, unless it's side by side comparisons we won't really notice it.
I always laughed at the gamespot comparisons where people would argue for days abotu which is better based on the shade of gray on that building or whatever. That said, I'm glad to see the PS3 version will be running a higher resolution, my girlfriend wants this game so I'll likely be buying it. Whether or not it's a sign of things to come I don't know, although I certainly hope that Blu-Ray/PS3 power is taken advantage of more in future games. |

I wife also wants this game so I will prolly get it, but I might have to get legends first.... undecided about that.
But just so you all know, I work with the highest quality images in the world every day. These are not movies, but photographs. I work as an Imaging Specialist at National Geographic, so looking for things like this are second nature to me. I can tell you that after looking at all the images, clearly the 360 has over-contrasted the images. Since they have to use the standard graphics processing unit, they probably ran it through their typical process. But with the PS3, they have to use the cell more to do this, so they probably gave it a closer look. The PS3 is easier to see in shadows, with more detail, and less over-saturated colors. Look at her hair closely. Notice how the root of her hair seems to vanish into darkness on the 360 more than on the PS3. This is due to over saturated and over contrasted imagery. Yes both look good, but clearly the PS3 is better. |

Cool, I didn't know that stuff. Is what you said true in a lot of these comparisons? Because honestly, it seems that the 360 version almost always has sharper contrast to the Ps3 version, which some people prefer and some don't, though I don't notice too much.

You can just adjust your diplay settings to look more like the 360 shot if you want. Or make the 360 version look more like the PS3 shot by adjusting the same tv settins in the opposite direction.

Well one thing to know about contrast... it gives the illusion of sharpness.
In fact when a professional image editor uses a sharpening filter on an image, it is actually applying contrast on a pixel-by-pixel level to make the illusion that there is more difference between pixels. That makes it looks sharper (and can also introduce errors if done incorrectly). So with the 360 version adding contrast, this is clearly a classic technique of hiding the lack of detail and sharpness that is in the PS3 version by making the entire thing look more contrasty and therefore look like it is sharper. I hope I didn't confuse anyone with that.... in other words.. high contrast = fake sharpening. Last edited by CptGreedle; 12-30-2008 at 07:13 PM. |

You can tell a good difference .. just focus on single parts.. like the chin or lips.
Too bad consoles are not rendering above 720p. Now you know why PC gamers are sometimes not big on consoles. They can game from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080. |
