what are the disadvantages and advantages of this blu-ray... help me, 4 my research!!... lub you alll........

There is a pretty good article in the new Sound & Vision.

The biggest issues is that Blu-Ray is not able to be produced on the same assembly lines the produce DVD (so they say). This means that assembly lines will need to be built from scratch for BD which increases cost significantly.

That initial cost may not be passed to consumers though. The manufacturers may eat the extra cost in an attempt to stay competitive with HD-DVD.

The other downside may be that some movie studios are quite clearly on the HD-DVD side of things and won't release movies on BD. So, for several years the movie you want may not be available in BD format, only HD-DVD format. The same is true for HD-DVD though - BD has several major studios that won't be releasing in HD-DVD format.

I imagine that a lot of people may end up with one of each type of machine, though I gotta say that right now my money is on BD because of the very significant extra storage space that is available, and will continue to be available on their discs.
