Default Denon, Pioneer, Marantz

A friend of mine works at Magnolia and told me that these reps came in and told him that they are all coming out with bluray players, not hybrids, in July. The Elite will be a second gen model, and Denon and Marantz will be straight up bluray players. Surprisingly, the Denon would be about $1k he heard from the rep.

This wouldn't surprise me. High-end home theater companies like these want the highest quality product, and we all know which format has that crown. Also, since these companies are so high-end, price doesn't matter, so HD-DVD can't use that argument here (even though on eproductwars.com the average price for a BD movie is less than that for an HD-DVD movie).

I would love to see a second generation Pioneer player and a first generation Denon BLU-RAY player. Thanks for the info, I hope your rep is correct.

I hope the rep is correct as well. There is nothing I would love more than to rub these high end products in the faces of HD-DVD

Gary mentioned a few weeks ago he thought there would be a Denon BD player this year. Maybe he has some more info?

Hopefully these players are Profile 1.1 at least.

Not really surprising. Denon ordinarily start of at the high-end of the market and gradually work the kit down to affordable levels, as they did in the early days of DVD. Good to hear they are entering the fray (so it seems).

This would be excellent news if true. I think it's confirmed that the new Pioneer Elite player was going to be Blu-ray only, but I hadn't heard much about the Denon and the Marantz players.

The first Denon player is only $1,000? That part I don't think I believe -- but am willing to be pleasantly surprised. Given that they have $3,800 and $1,500 regular DVD players, only $1,000 for their first Blu-ray player seems exceedingly low.

Then again, releasing in July means it likely doesn't have BD-J 1.1 support, so maybe they're planning to release a more stratified line-up including a higher-end player in the coming Winter or Spring.

More than likely if they stick with the BD format, they will also come out with a lower end player just as they have with thier regular DVD line.

Go Denon!

Hi sokrman14,

Just curious, did you friend at Magnolia mention if McIntosh will also be going blu-ray, if Denon & Marantz are?

Thanks!

I'd be amazed if the super high end folks like McIntosh don't simply wait until this is all over with.

That being said: I certainly would be blown away if they throw down for BD. McIntosh is a name that commands immediate shock and awe like respect.

Not so far. My source said not to expect anything before the end of this year. July would be amazing.

Actually, I think the OP meant surprisingly LOW PRICE, for a first product Denon.

The major problem is these are more computer than A/V equipment. Unless a company is using canned software solutions, the software requirements alone would be beyond some smaller speciality A/V companies.

Wasn't Anthem's president quoted as saying he is leaning HD DVD because it would be easier for them to implement?

He didnt mention if McIntosh would be going Bluray or not. I assume they eventually will since it is the parent company, but I doubt they will waste their time this early in the "war"

Thanks, I know it will be a while before they decide to go with either one of the Hi-Def format, but if D&M are going blu-ray, I don't see how McIntosh could go the other way.

I tested the MVP861 (the dealer lent us the machine for a few weeks ) before, and although the picture quality was not exceptional comparing to other DVD brands, the audio... my goodness, literally blew us away (we're watching Master & Commander).

Now I just have to patiently wait for their blu-ray player to come out...

I can't recall, but I'd sure lose a lot of respect for Anthem if they made a mistake like that.

Agreed. But, it shows how odd the reasoning can be.

If it was easy to to well, then how can you distinguish your product? Being difficult to implement would seem to be an opportunity, not a liability.

They'll probably wait until it's all over, like I suspect a lot of others are doing.
