Default List things that people may not know about their PS3's

I was thinking about posting a blog entry on my blog about the top 10 things you didn't know your PS3 could do.

This came about because I just found out recently that a PS3 will upconvert your DVDS. And I guess a lot of people didn't know about that.

So everyone list things that may get underreported about what the PS3 can do.

Another would be that it would rip CDs.

If you have reference pages describing the technical aspects of what the particular aspect you're talking about is, that'd be great too!

I don't know all the stuff it can do. It plays blurays/dvds/cds and it plays games. besides the fact that you can use it as a media center, and upgrade the HD there's not much that I know about it (aside from what I said in the 1st post).

SACDs if you have the right models.

Act as a media server with Media Player 11 on your PCs

folding@home, although in that case, it's probably more that people don't know what folding@home is.

You can put folders on your USB drives and sticks called -

THEME
MUSIC
PICTURE
VIDEO

All in upper case. If you put the relevant media in the correct folder you only have to press X on the joypad and it won't show all the other files. If you press triangle and display ALL, it will display all files but then you have to sort pics from vids to music and its a PITA.

You should tell them your PS3 was self regenerating.

Access the internet. It's kind of a pain without the keyboard but it will work with the game controller. I am not sure if it is possible but I would like to be able to download videos from the web to my TV. If I happen to miss an eposide of a show that is available on the internet, it would be nice to download it to my TV instead of watching it from my computer screen.

Download PlayOn from your home PC, install it and it shows up on your PS3. You then have access to Netflix, youtube, CBS, Hulu, all from your PS3. The netflix movies do require that you already have a netflix account, all the other stuff is free. After your free month or so you have to pay for the PlayOn service.
