I know that we have all heard about this. I was under the impression that developing for the ps2 was hard and you had to know exactly what you were doing otherwise your game would flop. The ps3 hardware allows us to do more then ever however, it is taking longer then ever to complete a ps3 game. This is the impression that I was and still am under. We are in the next generation of gaming and the gaming industry is huge even though some people say that developing is getting more expensive, but on the bright side, developers make a lot of money.

Phil mentioned that a few tools were being used to ease ps3 development. Is sony trying to make ps3 development as easy as possible?

Of course, what they are doing is good...hell, it's great! They really had to do it, because of the ease of making games for the 360. MS dev tools make it easy to create titles from what I heard. What do you expect though. They are software programmers first over there. I think that Sony is making it easier to develop games for the PS3 because they launched after MS so they don't have the advantage of making developers learn a non user friendly dev kit.
I think that is part of the reason they are able to keep the PS2 from feeling dated. The abilities of the PS2 were just being maximized a little while ago due to the long learning curve to program for the full power on it. That's just my theory. |
