While viewing "the dark knight", movie went from full screen hd to wide screen hd about 5 minutes into the movie. Can anyone tell me why?

parts of the movie were filmed with the IMAX camera, hence the shifting aspect ratio

The shots that filled your screen (1.78:1) are the IMAX shots. Those were shot with a 70mm camera. The shots that gave you black bars on top and bottom (2.40:1) were shot with a 35mm camera.

They decided to do this on the blu-ray and has been taken with mixed feelings. Personally, I did not even notice it the first time I watched it since I usually watch movies in complete darkness or a very dimly lit room. Therefore, I usually do not see the edges of my TV and therefore did not notice the shift in size.
