Cool Crazy's Build Page

Stumbled across this forum the other day, and I am hooked. I am starting at zero. I have a 46' non-HD Zenith TV and a 3 year old off-the-shelf Sony 5.1 system. I am waiting on a Sony SD350, everywhere in my town is sold out. I am wanting to start with a receiver, towers, and sub. The rest can come later. The only thing I am stuck on is an Onkyo 805. I went through my garage yesterday and I have about $1000 in Mustang/Ford parts that I am going to sell. With this budget (I know I will go higher) what would ya'll recommend? I am looking for middle of the road stuff, not the highest end stuff, but also not stuff that I am going to be tired of in a week. My room is not huge, but I want good quality sound.

I am thinking:

Polk RTi10's

Dayton Titanic Mk III, 12" Subwoofer Driver

with a Dayton SA240-B 240W Subwoofer Amplifier with Boost

Also a HUGE thank you to Big Daddy for answering all my newbie questions.

Welcome to the forum. As far as your choices a lot of people are going to give you a lot of advise however one thing that yuo'll hear is. "It really depends on your listening needs and such"

Can't wait to see pics!

When you say "underground," do you mean basement or bunker or cave?

haha, it is a basement

I am hoping that it helps with sound deadening, i.e. no pissed off neighbors

My neighbors hate us, we have sound wars with the one behind us. My stepdad has some huge subs in his truck, lol.

A theater in the basement is very nice. For both sound and lighting, it is ideal, IMO.

I will get pics, but I will tell you that the room is small

and I am just about tired of fighting with best buy to swap my NIB Samsung 1500 Blu-Ray for a Sony S350. They are sold out of both and whenever a 350 comes in they are bought immediately

Just return it and when the Sony S350 comes out, go in and buy it. They can't argue with you there, then if they do. Take it home open it and say there's something wrong with it, be picky. I can't tell you how many times I did that, to avoid the 10-15% restocking fee.

Here to help! The Onkyo 805 is very nice. Was the Samsung Blu Ray a Holiday gift?

I see, lol. Black Friday started me on this path... $199 for a Sony BDP-S350, could not pass it up... Now, I am thinking about buying a Sony 52" XBR 6, I believe is the exact model. But if I do, it will be in 3-5 months.

I just have one question and dont take it the wrong way but if you don't even have an HDTV why are you buying a blu-ray player and then spending money on sound equipment first?
