Thumbs up The CRT rptv....rest in peace :)

Wow -- very pleasantly & refreshingly surprised to see a rptv in the gallery as a featured centerpiece display device....and not only a rptv, but a CRT no less! I myself have a 65" Hitachi 1080i CRT rptv....it's a 2-piece, 319 lb. behemoth....although at only 28" deep, it's very slim for a 65" crt. It was the last of the Hitachi crt's, who were then leaders in crt rptv technology at its zenith; designing and making their own guns. It cost a cool $5,500 (cdn) back in 02'....for slightly more $$, I could've gone with a 42" plasma, but I wanted the biggest bang -- display size-wise, for the $$. It still has a great hidef picture with unbeatable black levels, with the greatest drawback being its inherently limited viewing cone (compared to current flat displays)....and oh yes, the need to periodically realign the guns.

Unfortunately, the Hitachi hasn't been called upon for duty in quite some time now, as I've upgraded to a 140" scope screen setup (which ironically cost less than the Hitachi -- including screen, 720p pj, and anamorphic lens). Anyhoos, from a fellow crt owner, congrats HiDef-Crazy on your great-looking setup and choice of gear!

I like the set-up. It is rare to see a RPTV, but it's all up to you and what you see as far as quality. I like your audio gear too, . 2 JBL subs too, how do they sound to you, as 2 subs solved my lower db voids for the most part. Overall, a very well organized and nice living room set up, good job!

Thanks Tony. I do prefer w/o the grills my self but with my dog and my daughters friends that come over I like to keep them on just in case.

I know I need to get with the times but I am happy with my CRT RPTV. I do have a DLP Mits 57" in the other room and the picture quality on both sets are outstanding. The 2 JBL subs sound great they fill the room with low end sound I am glad I went with 2. Thanks for the compliments.
