Default ONKYO TX-SR606 Crossover settings and questions

For those who are more audibly adept, I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-SR606, using Onkyo speakers, and had a few questions. I ran the mic setup that comes with the amp, but was curious about the crossover settings.

As I remember, and correct me if I'm wrong, for the regular speakers, set to small, and customized with crossover settings, the mic set the front speakers to 80hz, if I increase the crossover frequency from 80hz to 100hz the amp will send less bass and or low frequency sounds to that speaker and more to the sub effectivly reducing the risk of blowing the speaker by putting to much bass thru it, is this correct?

Also TX-SR606 owners, can you please share your crossover and amp settings and suggestions? Thanks! HEMI

Imagine a crossover like a fork in the road...

If you have your crossover set to 80Hz, then everything greater than 80Hz will output to your speakers and everything 80Hz and below will output to your LFE channel (subwoofer).

Crossover settings are going to vary based on the kinds of speakers that people have hooked up, so it's not going to do you much good for other's to share their settings.

Best advice I can give is to look up some information on your speakers and find the output range (XX Hz - XX Hz). A good starting place for your crossover is one setting higher than the lowest your speakers will output.

Hope this helps...

Go to A Guide to Subwoofers thread. Scroll half way down. You will find guidelines on how to set your crossover.

If you want to understand how crossover networks work, read A Guide to Crossover Networks.

Both threads have sticky in the Subwoofers section.
