Default Lamp less projectors..release??

I was wondering if anyone has heard when the new phlatlight projectors are going to be released...and how much they cost? I know when I read about it in Oct. they said they were supposed to be released end of this year to early 2009.

There are some portable mutlimedia projectors that used led lamps, but no mainstream home theatre projectors that i could find do.

There was a link at engadget.com and also an article at electrichouse. Supposedly Texas instruments and Luminous technologies created it. Full 1080p long life....up to 50,000 hours.

Texas Instruments' new LED-based DLP projection shines in person, due Q4
by Paul Miller, posted Aug 30th 2008 at 7:19AM

Delta Electronics might've jumped the gun a bit with its claim of firsties on Texas Instruments' new "PhlatLight" HD LED DLP projector tech. Delta hasn't brought even a prototype to IFA, but over at Texas Instruments there's a Vivitek version of the lamp-free projector tech, which TI claims will be the first to market sometime in Q4 of 2008. The specs they rattled off are undoubtedly impressive: 50% better color range, 500,000:1 contrast ratio, 30% less power draw, and of course 1080p to put a feather in the cap. In TI's darkened viewing room the image was certainly impressive, but we're guessing specs like these could carry over nicely into our less-than-ideal bedsheet setup back home

There's been lots of speculation, but no one has publicly shown a working model at this point. There were no announcements made at CEDIA, which is where they would definitely be announced if they were coming anytime soon.

At this point, there is no ETA on either lasers or LEDs used in front projectors. We'll probably have to wait until CEDIA 2009 to see if any are announced.

The new crop of projectors are typically unvailed at the end of the year during CREDIA in september. At CEDIA'08 there wernt any Laser projectors shown (maybe next year) only one LED projector was show.

Made by "Chilin" it is a 1080p DLP LED liquid cooled front projector. Chilin show a prototype at CEDIA in a temp case, MSRP is said to be under $10,000, release date around 1st quarter '09.

Bummer that the first LED lamp projectors are DLP based. I've yet to see a DLP anything where rainbows weren't very visible to me.

Projectors would have a lot more potential in their sales if the user didn't have to buy a $175-300 bulb every 2 years (give or take).

i have to disagree here, most of the new digital theaters ( bring back film ) are using DLP but they are using the more expensive 3 chip DLP, DLP is a higher end system as long as it is the three chip

Sorry, I meant consumer level. I didn't even think about the ones at theaters.

At the theaters I don't find myself noticing it, so I guess DLP does have promise... just on the TVs and projectors I've seen, I couldn't move my eyes without seeing them. Though, I've not honestly tried all DLP products to see. When I'm in the market for a projector, I'll probably give the newer ones a fair shake though.

Unfortunetly this is not the best news that I had hoped for. The release is in June but the price puts me way out on contention for owning one of these for anytime in the near future. I could buy a helluva lot of bulbs for that sticker price!! See below

Vivitek Display Seven New Projectors at CES 09

This is Vivitek’s first year at CES and they have come with guns blazing. They have brought with them not one but seven brand new projectors. These new models have a variety of uses including home theater, meeting halls, classrooms, libraries, lecture halls, auditoriums, and travel. All of these projectors use the latest in DLP display technology, which is provided by Texas Instruments.

The biggest projector out of the group is the H608FD, which features full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 700 ANSI lumens and an amazing 100000:1 contrast ratio. It is also the only projector in the group to use LEDs for a light source. This not only makes the projector eco-friendly, but also provides a 20000 hour lamp life. Also LEDs produce very little heat, which requires less power to cool the machine. Unfortunately, this projector will not be available until June for the suggested retail price of $19999.
