Default OK you speaker gurus

OK, so I just checked the web and UPS has delivered my new center - a Polk RM8C. So when I get home, I'm gonna go to work on my next upgrade. Question is, I was just reading about timbre-matching and how important that is for the front 3 speakers. Now, I have 25 year-old ADS L570s for the fronts which are great speakers and are in great condition and I'm using Polk R150s for the surrounds. Now for the puzzler (for me), should I use the Polk R150s for the fronts and put the behemoth L570s in the surround position. Would that more accurately match my front 3 speakers and give me more accurate sound? Thanks for any insight.

P.S. I'm planning on upgrading my fronts to Polk VM20s (maybe around stimulus check and tax time ) so the L570s are going bye-bye eventually.

Yeah, but should I move the Polk R150s up front for now?

OK, I guess I'll have all three Polks up front since they are the same brand and similar series. I can always swap them around again if the sound or bass is weak...

If the old speakers are more powerful, keep them as fronts.

I personally, would have tried to find a third a/d/s L570 and use it as a center, but since you are going small - I just looked at the speakers that you are wanting - and that seems to be part of your purpose - to go small, I would move the 150's to the front and put the 570's away for a two channel room. None of the speakers that you have now are in the L570's class at all. The VM20's are very nice (I think you should have waited and got the matching center channel instead of the RM8C). The 570's are a better speaker than the ones you currently possess but the RM8C can't really keep up with the a/d/s speakers - physics won't lie . Use your polk 3 channel set up until you can get your new fronts. The a/d/s speakers will present themselves as a backround singer that should be singing lead (a la Florance Ballard of the Supremes - a whole lotta power, but misused talent).

Good analogy...like it. Yes, that is what I'll do.

Yeah, I just wanted a center so badly once I found out the importance of having one. I'll not be so rash in the future. My HT system will always be a work in progress I fear (just like everyone's)

I agree. Mess that up and in comparison to your fronts, your voices can sound tinny or muffled.

Well, I finally got the speakers arranged how I want them (wow, they look nice without grills) and yes, there is definitely a difference. The main sound is much clearer and brighter and not so muffled with the Polks up front and the L570s in surround. Can't wait till I have time to watch a whole movie tonight (just did a demo with Serenity). I'm really starting to like this HT thing Thanks-
