The River

and the upcoming Pasolini 'Trilogy of Life' films. (I shouldn't have to buy the BFI import)

Criterion no longer owns the rights to REBECCA... also same for Straw Dogs. (although you mentioned Stray Dog. Some may confuse the titles.

Wasn't Monterey Pop Festival on the initial list of announcements?

I'm still waiting for Contempt. Then maybe L'Aventura?

I'll get all their Blu-ray releases -- I've been in two minds over The Last Emperor only, because of Storaro's misguided reframing and the lack of original surround audio from 70mm prints, but even that will trickle into my collection. For that film, what Criterion gives us is plenty. And their other releases have all been superb, and I have complete confidence in their choice of titles.

That said, I really want the more visual titles: and The Thief of Baghdad has been at the very top of my wish list ever since the DVD was released.

I wonder if the same applies to the other Hitchcock titles they released? Blu needs more Hitch.

I would love for the rest of Wes Anderson's films to be reissued by Criterion on blu ray (especially Rushmore), but Brazil is a definate must. That and Back to the Future are the 2 best movies of 1985.

They lost the rights to Rebecca, Notorious, Spellbound. They still own 39 Steps, and Lady Vanishes.

Thanks for the info - I didn't realize the rights had been lost/expired. I'm hopeful that we'll see North by Northwest this year and Psycho in 2010 for the anniversary editions, but I have no idea how much work would be needed on both films to clean them up for Blu.

39 Steps is a great movie. I wonder what condition it is in.

I voted for Rushmore from that list, but the one I truly want is The Ice Storm, which Criterion just released last year!

I really hope that the choices in the poll are actually amongst the very last films Criterion tackles. I hope to see these instead:

L'eclisse
L'avventura
Mama Roma
8 1/2
Bicycle Thieves
Amarcord
Jules and Jim
Solaris
Knife in the water
Ivan' Childhood
The Cranes are flying
The Double Life of Veronique
Le Trou
Hiroshima Mon Amour

etc.
