Default isf calibration

sorry i asked this in the display settings thread and did not get an answer so i decided to ask it again, what do they do when isf calibrator calibrate your tv? do they change settings in your service menu or do they just change your settings in your display settings, picture settings, detail settings? or all of the above?

all of the above, the biggest thing they do though are the adjustments in the service menus. They will adjust gamma settings, red, green and blue settings as well as gray scales as well. They also take into consideration your room, how it is laid out, ambient lighting and so on! lots go into an ISF calibration

so if someone had the same tv as me and had it calibrated they could jump into their service menu and tell me there settings to help calibrate my tv? if so how come this isn't done more all we get is display option settings?

All of the above. There are additional settings in the service menu that you can't access without an ISF calibrator...at least I don't think you can.

no because believe it or not all tv's are different. you would think that a panny plasma for instance would be the same as the next panny plasma that rolled off the line but there are small differences in each and every set, so someones service menu settings will not work for yours, well i mean it would work but your set would not be set for optimal picture! each calibration is completely unique

best buy do them and so do circuit city, not sure how good of a job they do, there was a thread on here a few days back about this so you might want to search about it. But surely there is an independent calibrator out in your area?

One thing I would like to add is if a set is designed correctly there really is no need to go into the service menu. Also remember that some sets are limited in how much we can calibrate. Some sets you can calibrate individual colors and some only grayscale. A properly calibrated set will absolutley extend the life of the set as well as cut power consumption, especially on Plasmas. I would not recommend tinkering in any sets service menu unless you know what you are doing. There are quite a few places on the web that guys have posted their settings, but as someone already mentioned, what works for one set probably wont work for another. Models can vary pretty dramatically and you can sometimes make things worse.

I know where your talking about. Some people may travel to cover a stronger area, therefore more money for them. Maybe someone even from Greenbay? Otherwise, if you contact Bestbuy, you may be able to take your set there for a couple hours. Yeah, they won't be able to take into consideration your surrounding of your viewing area, but it may still be worth it....at least worth the phone call to find out.

There are many "touring" calibrators. You can look here. I found a guy who might come to Lake Superior's North Shore in Minnesota, so you should be able to find someone.

My Samsung DLP required entry into the service menu. My buddy's Samsung LCD did not. All depends on the display.

the guys @ www.avical.com do tours, but I think Eliab (east coast) might be done touring soon. I highly recommend them. Good luck!

Cant help with the Sammy, sorry. Also not to beat a dead horse, but again, even if I did post numbers they wouldnt be correct for your set in your environment. It would be close, but not correct. Thats the whole reason to have a calibration done, so that your set will be correct, or as close to correct that your set will allow. To answer your question about becoming certified you can check ISF's web site and see if there will be any seminars in your area.
