Refusing shipment from post office when left on door step

How does one go about refusing a shipment from the post office? My postman often tosses packages over the fence, or leaves them without ringing the bell etc.

Not that it is necessary to explain but, I made an online purchase and, got a notice that I was refunded for a part of the products I purchased. I called and asked them to cancel the order and, even though it has yet to ship, they say there is no way to cancel the order and to just refuse shipment...

Write "RETURN TO SENDER" on the box and drop it off at your local post office?

Yes, write "REFUSED - RETURN TO SENDER" on it and hand deliver it to the counter of the post office - make sure it is OK before leaving

beware though, Whats the value of the item? Have you receieved a refund, If not refusing it will send it back,however if its not a reputable merchant you have no proof of refusal of redelivery

True. If you have the refund, you're golden. If not, you may want to pay to ship it back so you can track it and have proof you returned it. (Or have them send you a pre-paid mailing label!)

Ok great, wasn't sure if writing return to sender would work. There is no way to prove you haven't opened a box and resealed it. And yeah, will not ever purchase from them again. Can't figure out how they can't just not send a package they have yet to send when I let them know I will not accept it. If shipping isn't to expensive, I might go that route to return it for tracking purposes. Thanks.
