I think it would be best to match both since they were made to go together but you could also look at it like voice-matching a sub (which really doesn't exist and isn't that important).

I preordered a UMC-1 a while back and I'm ordering a UPA-7 at the end of the year (to take advantage of the current sale). I need to give myself presents too!

Emotiva seems to be about the best bang for buck in the audio electronics world.

@crazyBLUE:
Just wait for a UMC-1. I doubt you'll be able to do better with anything else in that price range... Even if you have to wait another month. You likely can't do better with a receiver around $700 and there aren't really any other choices for separates in that range. It'll suck having to wait, but it should be worth it.

Welcome to the club. I use my Denon receiver as a preamp. You can buy any medium priced receiver from Denon, Marantz, Pioneer Elite, Sony ES, Onkyo, Yamaha, etc.. However, If I were you, I would wait for Emotiva or buy an Integra Pre/Pro. I know it will cost you a lot more, but that is the reason we are here. Our job is to send you to bankruptcy court within a short period of time.

I would go with the Integra pre/pro myself. Emotiva's pre/pros in the past haven't been the world beaters their amps have been.

The Integra DHC-9.9 will cost you around $2,000. It is only money.

Congrats! I couldn't wait for Emo's pre/pro; so, I picked up a Yammie 663. Beats waiting IMO. They also have a 563 at around $350 and a 463 at about $300. The 463 only has preouts for 5.1 but you'll at least be able to use your amp. Congrats again. You're going to love it.

Can't say crazy. I've never compared the 606 and the 663. I can say that the 663 paired with the UPA-7 rocks the house. I'm sure any budget receiver (like the 663) would work well with the UPA-7. If you can wait, wait. But, if you're like me and want to be able to use the amp as soon as you get it, there are plenty of budget receivers with the new codecs and 7.1 preouts to choose from.
