Default PS3 Blu-ray stop/re-start issues...

Can anyone tell me why a Blu-Ray won't restart from same place I stopped it, but a DVD can be popped in 3 months later and start right up from last spot?

Specifically, I'm watching Benjamin Button and had to re-look for last chapter I stopped it at...is there a way I can keep my position when I stop the movie?

Thanks.

its called bd-java. this is why a lot of blu rays have bookmarking features so you can pick up where you leave off

exactly well put. Still a minor pain though. Have to manually tell your p[layer wherer to go vs. it doiong it al by it self.

I am not sure whether the resume features is working for all new titles. Any comments?

BD's without java based menus will resume on the PS3 but as per the BD spec. However, those BD titles using java are not supposted to resume as this is where the java bookmark feature is offered instead. This is not just a PS3 function but applies to standalone BD players.

Got it...guess I just haven't seem too much use for a 'bookmark' as most scenes I'd return to could be accessed just as quickly via a chapter selection. I also still have to go through watching all the silly FBI warnings and preview screens using a bookmark.

Seems to me that there could be some method within Java of automatically noting a stop point when you press the stop button on your remote - then asking if you want to resume from previous location or start over when you put that disc back in. Can't they develop a software workaround for this?

It's been done and is available on some newer Java releases.
