Default Stop using TVersity and start using PMS!

Tversity is a garbage program. Lets get that clear. Ive never had it run 100% right and always mixed results and runs like a turd. I finally stumbled upon PMS (PS3 Media Server) and it is the most amazing software ive ever witnessed.

http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/

There is the website. The only issue i had was that i couldnt get VC-1 (WMV) working but it was due to older WMV codecs in the package, link to those are here:

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/rele...l-20071007.zip

Copy the proper files over and you're set. It encodes ANYTHING that doesnt work on the PS3 to MPEG2 on the fly including audio to DD 5.1 or even LOSSLESS PCM 5.1! So basically ANYTHING works as long as your PC is up to it. I have a 2.93ghz dual core intel setup and ive yet to find anything that doesnt work.

Is this program fast ? Cause I use Nero Mediahome 4 and it's very slow in transferring big files.

I am using both. TVersity does a good job with Vista 64. As of now it does a much better job of handling problem files using the always transcode option. PMS under Vista 64 does not transcode files properly. When transcoded the sound and video is totally out of sync. Usually the picture play at twice the normal rate while the sound is at the correct rate. I even tried the beta version with the same results. Ho0pefully future updates will take care of these problems. The program has a lot of potential because it is so easy to use.

PS3 Media server is pretty much perfect. I do have a question. When it transcodes flac files to your ps3, is there a degradation of quality from the original flac file?

I use it too. Hate TVersity. My only problem with WMP is that it doesnt support DVR.MS files on the PS3

I'm using wifi. I think PS3 Media Server is the best because it transcodes flac files and ISO files for playback on the PS3 automatically. Before this, I was unable to play any of those on the PS3.

Unless you're streaming something that's already lossless PCM 5.1, you're not getting a true lossless PCM 5.1 from this.

I have some .dts songs on my computer. They play using PS3 Media server, but I'm fairly certain there's some loss in quality. Flac files, on the other hand, sound amazing.

I never could get the PMS to work correctly, I prefer Tv or PMS... from my previous experiences of dealing with the two.

I prefer PMS because it's just an excellent piece of software. It doesn't have to index your folders, it simply knows they're there. Also, it has yet to time out on me like WMS did. WMS couldn't open half of my main directories because they contain thousands of folders each (lots and lots and lots of media ).

The indexing thing is the reason I didn't stick with TVersity.

Windows Media is like trying to hammer in a square peg into a round hole..
PMS has never worked very well for me, not as bad as windows media
but not as efficient as I wanted.

Also windows media like most Microsoft software is moody, it fails when you least expect it, and I never actually got windows media to actually refresh media without me restarting every component connected.

For me tversity I just added folders and I was happy... I already have content on my pc Extremely organized because.. well wait never mind im not going to talk about this anymore.. cause its obvious.. once you have x amount of content you have to organize it or you would not know where it was..
