PS3 back-up question - Blu-ray Forum

If I use the back-up utility on the PS3, does it back up all user profiles? Or just the one I'm signed in as?

Our whole family has user profiles on the main PS3 in our living room, and its slot drive is broken (with ONE day left on the warranty... talk about timing). If I sign in under my profile and back it up, will it also back up my wife's profile, and our 3 kids? Or do I have to do this individually?

I can't find anything on Sony's support site confirming this.

(PS... To those of you who know me and saw my posts last month about my son sticking a penny in our new PS3, yes, Sony did replace it. Amazed at that. The PS3 I'm referring to in this post, however, is our older PS3 that is having drive issues--it won't recognize any disc you insert. We're pretty confident nothing's jammed in there, tho.

yes, it backs up the entire PS3 and all profiles... make sure you sync your trophies (if this applies to you) before you do so. i just upgraded from an 80 to a 500GB drive the other day myself.

it should back up the entire drive. but it seems like you may not have a choice regardless. thats great sony replace the ps3 piggy bank.

Follow-up questions: Does it back up my DLC? I noticed on the PS3 "Piggy Bank" that when I backed it up, and then did a restore, it forced me to re-download everything because I was dealing with a new machine (different serial number, I believe, was the error message).

But with this repair, I'm guessing Sony will just swap out the slot drive and send my machine back, serial intact. Will the restore work? Is there a limit to how many times I can re-download DLC to a PS3 if I'm forced to do it yet again?

The reason I ask is we have a TON of Rock Band songs and full-game downloads on the household PS3.
