Default getting HD audio - new home theater

Hey guys
I just installed my first home theater. I have a PS3 connected to my Pioneer 1018. I am trying to figure out if I am actually getting HD audio.
I had to change the audio setting on my PS3 in order to play PCM 5.1. There wasnt any options on the PS3 to output DolbyHD or DTS-HD. My pioneer only displays PCM when I am playing a blu-ray.
If someone has this receiver or has a general idea on the steps I need to take, please help me to get HD audio!
Thanks

there are two ways to get Lossless (HD) audio.

1. Bitstream
1. PCM

...the PS3 is only able to send lossless audio via PCM, so your receiver will never display "TrueHD" or "Dts-HD MA" from a PS3. You need a player with bitstream ability for the receiver to actually display the audio.

Instead, your PS3 is decoding internally and sending via a PCM signal. This is why you only see PCM displayed on your receiver.

Press the "select" or "display" button on your PS3 remote when watching a movie.

Thanks guys... thats What I was getting and just wasnt sure if it was correct.
Also, there are a few different PCM outputs from the PS3. Since I have a 5.1 set-up I am assuming I select PCM 5.1.
However, there are 2 PCM 5.1 outputs.
1 - Linear PCM 5.1 Ch 44.1 / 88.2 / 176.4 kHz
2 - Linear PCM 5.1 Ch 48 / 96 / 192 kHZ

I only have the 2nd option checked.
Should I have both checked or is just the 2nd option enough?

Thanks again!

If you have HDMI, the PS3 should have talked with the receiver to know what it could cope with. You should tick the 44.1 box as well, as the receiver can decode it.

Mine don't and it pisses me off too! Sometimes when there is an firmware update I have to go in and check them off again.
