Default PowerDVD with Vista64 problem

I had a setup on XP with PowerDVD working fine. I "upgraded" to Vista 64 with same hardware but now can't play Blu ray with PowerDVD 8 Ultra. Can open software, see Blu ray but when I click play, I see balloon from Vista changing resolution and turning off Aero, see a flicker and PowerDVD shuts off. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Actually, only change is hardware is new monitor (Dell 3007) and using dual DVI cable. Still using AnyDVD.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried updating the video card driver (official one) and the player http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/downl...s_1_en_US.html

Why do you need AnyDVD to play the movies?

Maybe a HDCP issue.

Official driver for the monitor?

What type of disc is it?

For a long time I couldn't play any BDs authored with BD Java. When I ended up upgrading my motherboard it started working with any BD. Odd, I know. Even the good folks at CyberLink were puzzled.

Was it a clean install for Vista x64?

I have PowerDVD installed to play Blu Ray and it came with my Blu Ray drive... I have Windows Vista 64 installed in my computer and Ive never had a problem playing blu ray movies on it. It even plays blu ray movies when I have it connected to my 40" Samsung 1080p via VGA connector. I am still waiting for the DVI to HDMI cable to take advantage of full HD quality. Didnt think the Blu ray movie would play because of HDCP thing but I guess it does.

Yes, both the driver for my Quadro 3450 and PowerDVD Ultra are the lastest version. I need anyDVD because of HDCP.

I am using dell driver for the 3007.

The actual disc was The Dark Knight (same disc played fine on XP).

Yes, it was a clean install of Vista64.

Install Cyberlink BD Advisor and see if you need to upgrade anything.

I did. Yellow grade for the Quadro 3450 (worked fine with XP) and red for digital connection so I have to use anyDVD (worked fine with XP).

Since it puts yellow grade for your video card, my guess the problem is your video driver. FYI your Quadro FX 3450 does not support all features of PureVideo HD. It does not support H.264 Decode Acceleration with IDCT and CAVLC/CABAC, VC-1/WMV Decode Acceleration with IDCT, MPEG-2 Spatial-Temporal De-Interlacing, MPEG-2 Inverse Telecine. But it does support the rest of PureVideo HD features. http://www.nvidia.com/docs/CP/11036/...Comparison.pdf

I thought about that. On the XP, it also gave it a yellow grade but did play fine, including The Dark Knight blu-ray. Tonight, I will try older driver versions to see if that makes any difference. Thanks.

FYI I have GeForce Go 7600 which doesn't fully support PureVideo HD. It plays some Blu-ray movies but not others. Some movies work with XP but not Vista and vice versa. Some doesn't work at all even with latest video driver and latest patches for PowerDVD and WinDVD.

I wonder if AnyDVD is gumming up the works.

Which brings up the question of why I have a DHCP problem. The dell 3007 is suppose to be HDCP compliant. Are some dual lind DVI cable not HDCP compliant and some are? I am not sure why I have to use AnyDVD. When I try to play without AnyDVD, PowerDVD states that there is a HDCP problem.

Never mind, I found the answer in this link:

http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/n...irect=&p_lva=&

So does anyone know for sure which card is HDCP compliant in dual link DVI mode?

FYI, I tried all of the older drivers for my video card without success. I got a response from cyperlink with a link to download another version of PowerDVD which worked fine. No explanation was given about why the conflict or what is different with this version. It is version 8.0.2430.50

Bottom line is with the above version, everything seems to be working.
