Default Uncompressed audio and my Sony

Okay..I am fairly amatuerish at all this.....

Anyways...I put in the movie Crimson Tide and set it to play 5.1 uncompressed (PCM I think). I have a Sony 550 blu ray and a Sony STR-DA2100ES reciever. When I go to play the movie my reciever sets to Pro-Logic. It is playing 5.1...but in ProLogic.

Why would that be?

(Sorry for the stupid question)

It's not stupid, and don't let anybody tell you that it is.

I suspect the output mode of the 550 is doing something odd. What is it set to?

Without firing it up (as my daughter is watching tv)..what are the options?
( I will know what I have it set to if you tell me what the options are --I just dont remember off hand)

I can't remember the precise names, my apologies. But it should be doing the output in PCM mode (I think it's "direct").

Check the thread for the 550, it's a sticky. Lots of stuff on it there.

does your receiver have an HDMI port? If not then you need to set it up so that you have the analog outs(multi-channel outs) on the back of the 550 connected to the multi-channel inputs on the back of the 2100ES. Then you want your audio setup in the BDP set to analog out, not HDMI or Optical/Coaxial, and the DD THD and DTS HD MA set to Mix, not direct. Your BDP will decode the HD audios and send it out to your receiver over the analogs.

If he sets it to mix he won't get DTS Master Audio? Dolby True HD will work.

Not everyone has that option..... Plus analog sounds just as good as HDMI.

Here is someones settings that I think is using analog outs. I forget whose settings these are, but it was in the 550's thread.

Analog out. All speakers are working. 7.1

Settings: Output Priority Multi Channel Analog
Audio (hdmi) : 2ch pcm
BD Audio setting : direct
Audio ATT: off
Dolby Digital : Downmix PCM
DTS : Downmix PCM
48khz/96khz PCM : 96khz/24 bit
Audio DRC: wide range
Downmix: Dolby Surround
